"Jacob's Ladder," photographs by Melanie King, opening Sept. 18 in Los Angeles!

The Lead Apron Gallery in Los Angeles is
opening "Jacob's Ladder," a solo show of
the photography of my wife, Melanie King,
on September 18. The show features her
photographs of people in Appalachian
North Carolina.

Melanie works entirely in film. I am posting
this announcement here not only because
many of you know her as a frequent subject
of my photographs, but also because she is a
rangefinder shooter -- nearly all of her work
is shot with either an Agfa Record 6x9 folder
or a Leica IIIa. The show contains 24 prints,
all printed by her in the darkroom.

If you are in Los Angeles on the 18th, please
stop by and introduce yourself -- we would
love to meet you.

Here is a scan of the flyer for the show:

Hi Sanders
Do you have a link to the pictures online as unfortunately being in the UK I'm not going to be able to get to see the exhibition? Judging by the picture you've uploaded the prints look to be lovely. I'm curious as to the paper she is printing on

C: It is going up now, and will be up for at least a month.
I don't know how long Lead Apron is planning to show it.
(And congratulations on surviving the bar exam.)

Nigel: The photographs in the show are not collected in
one place. But you can see some of them, along with
some of Melanie's other work, on her Flickr page at

http://www.flickr.com/photos/reneeking/

Melanie is printing on Agfa MCC 111 paper.

That looks very interesting, I can be in LA on the 18th. Please post here if it is going to stay up longer, I will be there in October. Best of luck with the show.

Carter

Carter, yes, the show should run into October.
But if you can make the opening night, Melanie
and I will be there -- it would be a pleasure to
have the opportunity to meet you. Sanders

I had a look at her flicker gallery and the shots of her grandfather in the chair and her brother on the school bus are so fantastic that I just want to walk my camera gear out to the dumpster.

where exactly is the gallery?

maybe i could come by and see the exhibition and meet some fellow rff'ers.

I just saw my kid's calendar for Marching Band...on the 18th they're going to be marching in the L.A County Fair...won't be done until 9:30 pm...crap...

I'm the unofficial official photo-guy for them...or is it official unofficial...???

Ouch...if only I wasn't on the Opposite Coast...!

Best of luck on this one. Looks wonderful.

I am 99% sure that I will be there. My wife will come too if she can switch her shift at work.

Sanders, Melanie and Nikon Sam, it was great meeting the both of you. Melanie's work is REALLY good.

I think I may have said my RFF name was "chris-m" but that is actually my flickr name. As you can tell from my posts, I'm "cjm".

I'll post some pictures of the exhibit when I find some time to develop them. :)

Just Down the Road!

Just Down the Road!

I thought that flyer shot had an awfully familiar ring to it, then looking through the Flickr pages of your wife's work, it dawned on me that lots of those pictures were made right down the road from me! Next time you all come "back home", drive on up NC197 to Green Mountain and we can swap Leica stories and admire Appalachian Yard Art.
