Kodachrome today...

Kodachrome II was the epitome! Supposedly its replacement, Kodachrome 25, used a process that was less polluting to the environment. Nothing else had the nearly total lack of grain, the believable lovely colors of K-II. Then when you consider how archival the dyes were...I sure miss the stuff.

“We’re probably doing over a thousand rolls of Kodachrome every day.”

somebody is shooting it... I've got 5-6 rolls of dated K25 and K64 that I should shoot before the sun disappears for the winter...

Yeah, I think it will be a real pitty - but some day it will go down the drain. Allthough no other film has someone singing about it ..." don't take my Velvia away ?!"
Nowadays everything is about convienience and not about the absolut best possible color representation (subject to personal perference). And honestly waiting a couple of weeks until I would hopefully get my slidefilm back from Kansas is not really what I would call convienient. I'm still shooting film and the 3 days turnaround time for the prints I'm gladly willing to wait. It's much easier to flip through the prints than selecting from hundreds of digital shots on the screen and postprocess selected ones and get them printed by a lab.

The Kodachrome will eventually vanish same as getting you milk in a can (I can still remenber that...) or delivered to your door in glass bottles.

I still get my milk delivered to my door, in a glass bottle. I pay for the privilege, tho. Nearly 2x the supermarket price - but soooo much better taste. One of the few outright luxuries left in the family budget.

We get our milk from a farmer nearby, in our jars, dipped from the bulk tank.

A thousand rolls of Kodachrome a day. Not too shabby for one lab.

And what does THAT mean:
There is talk that after 2009, Kodachrome will no longer be supported by Kodak. No one knows that for sure, but now down to only one processing lab, the future doesn’t look good.

Supported?? please translate...

Polaroid has had probably far more songs written about it... and it's gone.

I think it's worth noting/repeating that you don't have to send it to Dwayne's directly. Myself and a lot others drop our roll of Kodachrome at Wal-mart's drop in kiosk (don't talk to the clerks, they will just stare at you blankly).

Give it about a week and you'll get your K-14 development and slides neatly mounted in a small black box for $4.88 USD.

NOTE: I just picked up a roll last week, so I know this still can be done :)

Not only that, you can do E6 (both 35mm and 120/220) the same way I described above and still pay the same price.

Yep, I was quite surprised seeing the number. More than I thought it would be.

Btw, Kodachrome is great for indoor winter/thanksgiving/Christmas photos, especially if you have something modern in it. It confuses those who look at the results :D :D

It was Kodachrome X, but I took a picture at a party in Panama' as the sun was going down. The guy was wearing a Panamanian straw hat. That closing light and the colors of his dark skin, his shirt and that straw hat were the best image I have ever done. I was so simple, Spotmatic, match the needle, Kodachrome in the box, maybe I'll go back to Panama' and try it again.
