HU Ebay M3DS $450 BIN - not too bad shape

The shutter looks like it's in need of a CLA (take a look at the curtain cap protruding from the viewer's right), but even after figuring a trip to Youxin the camera still is a great price.

One must almost always count on a CLA unless there is evidence that a CLA was done in recently :)

Enjoy the dark I mean light side(digital is the dark side)

I call it the Dark Side because I thought I was through with RFs. I gave my Bessa R and Zorki to one son and my IIIf , Sumitar and Fed 2 to the other son.

Now it seems I have to CLA it, and find some kind of lens(es) for it. I can get CV 35/2.8 back as a stopgap, but that is it.

It will be a slow project I guess.

John

John, the M3 you purchased is PERFECT for a 50mm lens. When you receive it, you'll see the reason, but if you want to know now... well, it's simple: almost the entirety of the viewfinder contains the framelines for the 50mm lens. Nothing wider.

Granted, you can put a 35mm lens, but you won't have even an approximate idea of the FOV of the lens if you look through the VF. So, you have a choice:

A) Get a 35mm lens AND an external viewfinder so you know what's getting in the picture.

B) Get a nice collapsible 50mm Summicron (or any other 50mm lens for that matter, in bayonet mount).

Take care and congratulations on the purchase! :) The M3 will teach you to appreciate the 50mm focal length!

Congratulations John! That's a great price for a very nice camera. If you send it in for a CLA, ask them if it's possible to hammer the dent out a bit.

Thanks and I just figured that problem out on my own.:) This was a snap purchase due to price. My wife had that look on her face when I told her I bought it. I will have to wait a few before buying a "real" Leica lens for it. I do have a J8, J12, and FSU Elmar copy, so I will have to get an LTM adapter for now. I do want a Summicron though, as soon as possible.

Looks good, but ooooo, that's a deep dent near the rewind. I'd want to get that checked out from the inside, and hammered out a bit. Looks like an excellent candidate for restoration.

Camera arrived today. It looks better than the pictures. This is my first M so I have been playing without lens or film. The only thing I see wrong is shutter speeds below 1/15 are wonky. Shutter opens and stays that way till I turn speed dial. I had already planned to get it CLAed anyway, so no biggie. Seller included a working MC meter and neckhair pulling chain strap.

So I am a happy puppy right now, gotta get it off to someone to CLA.
That ding does not look as bad but I will get it looked at. It was like people saying "Oh, look at that cute puppy". After I bought it, then it was
"but what about that big wart on his nose". :)
