We know that Pitt is an avid Leica photog (I remember him posing on the cover of Interview with a late model M body). I have no idea if this recent series for W magazine was shot with a Leica, but there's a note in the following article that the photos were shot on Kodak Tech-Pan.

The geek in me is curious about what gear he used/uses. What do you think of the photos? The model ain't bad. :)

Pics are too grainy. The composition in the one of AJ and the girl giggling is cute, and the light makes it even better. However, I don't think the photo with the hamburger favors the model. My wife would kill me if I published a photo of hers like that one. Not quite flattering.

Film flown in from Tel-Aviv? Into where? That is some pull...

Thanks for posting! :)

Guy can't even focus the camera! And with subject matter like A.J. and kids, you'd think getting great shots would be a no-brainer. These must have been the best from the rolls.

Maybe they were paparazzi photos. They look like it. A lady mowing on a big fat juicy hamburger, like she is really going at it, was probably not taken by somebody close to her imho, yikes.

Also of note is that the November copy of W is the "art issue" and features something on or from William Eggelston. Maybe I'll pick this up.

Who knows how he exposed them - they might have been under exposed which would explain the grain. He probably did use a RF and didn't take the time to properly focus the shots. Had these shots been taken by your average Joe, nobody would even bother to post them - they are not that great!

these hit me as family album shots.. a guy and his family. I don't think Pitt intended them as much more. It does give an interesting glimpse into the Pitt/Jolie life. I wouldn't read too much into the shots and the technical skills. These seem like 'moments' on film. I'm sure he could do better in the right circumstances.

I love them. There's an honesty to the shots that just seems to be a guy hanging out and shooting pictures of his family for them to laugh over with a glass of wine.

IMO a much appreciated tonic to the glitzy falseness of celebrity that we've been inundated with over the past few decades...

Now if only I could find out where in Tel-Aviv you can find that film! :)

:)

agree. i quite like as well,

btw i looks like someone else is handing her that burger- maybe the kids force-feeding her during her "skinny" period.

:p

He's been seen with an R8/R9 on various occasions.
I think he was also pictured with an M somewhere.
Apparently he's been a shooter for many years.
Likes b/w film.

I think the pictures are good.

They're great, it's rare to see candid shots of celebrities by people closest to them. Sammy Davis Jr. used a Rolleiflex, and there are other celebrity photographers but I can't recall them right now.

I know that Trudy Styler (Sting's wife) shoots with a Hermes MP.

It's a source of never-ending amusement at the local shop where she brings her film... (good on her IMO)

Eric Clapton shoots with the same camera IIRC...

I won't say these are bad photos... simply that I find the burger pic unflattering. The others are nice, and the graininess may come from the fact that these are websized photos, scanned and processed multiple times before they are ready for "our viewing pleasure."

I've read that Yul Brynner and Sammy Davis Jr were avid photographers. And there's an actress famous in the 90s, I think Alyssa Milano, who is also an avid Nikon SLR fan. There's fellow Leicaphile Brandon Fraser and LOTR's Frodo, Elijah Wood, who shoots Leicas with B&W film.

Seems to me there's no shortage of film users in the glitzy world of Hollywood... :) Let's add one of the Bridge brothers, either Beau or Jeff... ;)

In the extras of the "Seabiscuit" DVD, you can see Jeff's pano shots of the set and crew.

.. I used to dislike Brad Pitt and thought he was just a pretty face with marginal acting skills ... then I saw him in 'Fight Club!'

Bradley is actually an outstanding actor doing crappy films for the money (Ocean's) -- the kids need more shoes I guess.
