I just bought an extremely nice Canonet outfit here, from Rallye_chrono. (BTW, he also has a Canon 7 and 0.95 he is selling in the classifieds - it looks like a very nice setup)

It has a few small marks, but largely looks unused - I am impressed with the black paint finish on this camera, it is a small beauty. I spent a few minutes tonight figuring out how to work it (no meter in manual!) and popped the top to clean some haze off the inside of the VF (now it is very bright).

It came with a case and flash, but the flash isn't charging, so ideas on that are welcome. I have to decide if it is too nice to use! (Plus it wasn't one of those $35 ones!)

wow.. it's not often you see a Black Canonet.. I have 2 in silver, and they're awesome.. you definitely ought to use it
 
beautiful camera, but i love the case also. i dont have a case for my canonet so it travel naked in my bag. im always afraid i will damage it that way. 🙁

I was able to snag a black one on E-gag a couple years ago (wow, has it been that long?) for a non-confiscatory price. I was very surprised at the condition, even the seals were ok!

I now have one black and one chrome. The chrome one is recalibrated to use 1600 film, and I use that mostly for low-light stuff.

What kind of flash do you have? Is that a Canolite?

The chrome one came with the Canolite, which I have never used. I very seldom use flash for any serious photography. I have, however, used the Vivitar 2600 and (talk about the tail wagging the dog!) a Sunpak 120 with it for the Weegee experiments.

One of these days I'm going to try out the Canolite, just to see what it will do. I just haven't been inspired to do so yet. 🙂
 
Yes it really is nice, the whole kit looks extremely good and would pass for a new one with a bit of "shop wear" except for a rub on the back corner of the camera.

The case leatherette looks new with no cracks and the strap is still rolled up as new. I got the flash to work last night - the battery cover is fiddly and it needs some tweaking. It also came with the original boxes for the camera and flash - but unfortunately no manual.

Everything on the camera seems to work perfectly - after I figured out the idiosyncrasies - like removing the lens cap before trying "Auto" ! The seals are sticky, so I guess I'll need to replace them, but I may run a roll of film through it first just to see what happens.

There are links to the manuals in the sticky at the top of the this forum, but they do come up on ebay quite regularly.

Just used a black yin with an old roll of Kodachrome64 at the w/end - got to go over to Dwaynes in the U.S. for processing, via Switzerland, so better get it posted. But usually back to the U.K in about 10 days - cardboard mounts don't you hate them?

I had a black and a chrome. Just sold the chrome because I have too many cameras. The black was in bad shape so I (stupidly) ordered camera enamel from micro tools and attempted to make it look "better." Take my advise: DO NOT DO THIS AT HOME. Or any other place. I still use the camera a lot, but it now irks me every time I look at the top and corners that had been nicely brassed and now are blobbed with too glossy black paint.

That said, the photos that camera takes are so amazing, I just forget about the shape it's it.

I think there's a black one on ebay right now, for those looking. A Taiwan, not Japan, but still....
 
I tested the Canonet today with some out dated Konica Centuria 100. (First time I tried this film - I don't think it will be my favorite!) Everything seemed to work fine.
