I just damaged my Leica M2

I just replaced my M2 camera back door vulcanite to Aki-Asahi's. When I did it I had a russian M39 lens and adapter attached. I don't think it can touch and damage the inner parts of the M2, anyhow I had it on the camera. When everything was finished I put the door back on camera, cocked it and released it. It was ok the first and the second time, the third time it jammed totally. It is now stuck in its cocked position. What could have happened? It might be something with the curtain, it looks like it is slightly misalligned. Darn, it has worked so well.

It has to be a coincidence, unless you somehow got a chip of the old vulcanite stuck in the shutter mechanism.

Bummer, but i agree it's probably a coincidence. I can recommend Will van Manen in The Netherlands if you don't have a good repair person in Sweden (if you DO, then please let me know who...). Will and his apprentice Cathy just CLA'd my M3 and did a lovely job with quick turnaround (but it cost 185 Euros).

You may have a piece of the old vulcanite stuck in the curtain track. This happened to me once after replacing the skin.

I'll try fix it myself. A service is just as much as a working M2. And I know a couple of good repairmen in Sweden. Mail me if you're interested.

Open the back door, take off the lens, and gently using a finger tip pressing on both sides of the curtain you might be able to move it back and forth a bit against the spring tension. While doing that shake the camera body while holding it in different positions. Even a few light taps on the table won't hurt. If it's just a film chip that will probably get dislodge it and get it out. If not you won't be doing anything that would add to the repair bill.

Thanks for the tip! I was able to move it a little, and when moving it three mm's it came free. I did it a couple of times, the curtain got stuck at the same point. After doing so a few more times it now seems to be stuck almost closed. I Can not cock it any longer.

Could be a light baffle that came loose. From what I understand it's pretty common on M3's and M2's. Stu
