30th on a Zorki 4

hello,
a little question to advanced Zorki-4 learners...
It seems mine has got a prob. After about 45 years working flawlessly (it was given to me by my grand-mother, and her father had brought the camera back from the USSR in 63 or 64) it has suddently started whirring when cocking the shutter at 1/30th. I had a look inside and here is what I found :
the little part that catches the slow speed mechanism is used when winding that speed, and then releases it hence the whirring sound.The mechanism isn't supposed to be working, is it?
It seems the board that bears it, is slightly bent. Is there any means to make it straight again?

The slow speeds on the Zorki 4, work on a certain 'height'. When you select a slow speed, the dial is lifted and catches with the slow speed mechanism.
What could be the problem in your case, is that the slow speed mechanism is too low and catches with the dial at fast speeds as well.
63/64 Maybe a good time to give it a proper Cla. 🙄
 
actually, I dismantled most of the superstructure and put it back together , and lo behold it was working correctly again!!!! 😀 Those russian cameras are so cool that they fix themselves up! Can't wait testing it again!
 
Have just put some Reala in the camera and, after adjusting the RF I took it out for a test. Still the same nice feeling of the not-that-noisy shutter and the big big big VF... Will post the result as soon as the film is processed!
 
at last, got the film back from the lab. Scanned on an epson V500 and GIMP'ed. Grrr the lab scratched the film and there's a cool neat line right in the middle. hmmm...
1-3 : 1/30, f:4
2 : 1/125, f:11

I have had the same experience with a MIR and a Zorki-3M. All they needed was some dismantling and reassembly to work perfectly again. I wished that I had found the causes, but I was delighted with the results!
