I'm curious as to what straps everyone uses? I'm prone to a wii strap on my M3. Anyone ever used the Y strap?
 
have both M6's hanging off old leather Leica straps that I keep supple with Schnee's Leather Conditioner. Tried nylon straps for awhile but leather feels much more comfortable.
 
These days no strap. Tried the 1.5 in wide ones - too bulky. The narrow ones - start to feel like cutting into the neck. The ones with the rubber slide on gripper - the little knobs become irritating. maybe I need a baby bear strap!

However, I am thinking of giving straps another chance so I could carry 2 bodies at the ready.

99% of the time, I never use any sort of strap. But on those rare occasions when I do, I just grab anything out of the pile. I get them from the $1.00 bin at the local used camera shop. They are just old assorted OEM nylon straps. When I get something like that, the owner just says "thanks" and never charges me.

Straps are just straps. They do nothing to affect the quality of the photos you make, just like a lens cap, unless they get in the way. (just like a lens cap) So get them cheap and spend your money on film.
 
Artist and Artisans black cordovan strap, super strong but thin, narrow and supple so it's easy to wrap around my hand a few times yet not get bulky... pricey but i'm convinced it will last for many many years of use...
 
I agree with Bob, straps are straps. However over the years I've accumulated a number of Leica straps and like them best. They have the original do-hickey for attachment which makes it easy to remove when a strap gets in the way and doesn't mar the body.
 
I used the strap that came with my Bessa R on my brothers Leica and it worked fine, whether it was around my chest a la messanger bag style or wrapped around my wrist. Nothing about the strap bothers me, it's tough, soft and adjustable.

My friend has a Y Strap and I liked it so much I bought one. I only tried in on my Bessa R3A and it worked just fine and felt really durable too. But the lugs are placed different on a Bessa 3 than a Leica...

Got a Domke gripper without swivels lately... But the leather seems to stretch some where the strap is attached to the body. Anyone got it destroyed? Looks scary.
 
Dear Chris,

Very pretty, and no doubt very strong, but how soft is it? All the braided straps I've ever tried feel like a band-saw blade around my neck after a few hours. Also, quite a few of them catch the hairs on my neck, though nothing like as badly as those beautiful snake-chains that were the rage in the 50s.

It's not bad, actually. In individual strands the kangaroo lace is very soft; when plaited tightly it gains stiffness from the structure. I plaited this one quite tightly, but the next one will be a bit looser for an even softer strap. No issues with catching neck-hairs! I do tend to use it wrapped around the wrist for preference, but it is quite comfortable with a collared shirt or on the shoulder while changing film or eating an icecream. And I find it is getting softer with age. I must try a little leather dressing on it at some stage.

Are you talking about the protector piece? None of mine have stretched. Even if that piece came off it wouldn't endanger the camera.

Thanks for the reply. Do I infer that it may be a little saw-like on the bare neck? Because that's where I use my neck straps...
