Well,
It is a nice looking lens. Is it worth the extra money? I do not think so. I kind of like the bokeh in the older model. This one seems more harsh in how it renders shape and tone. I once had a chance to buy an older one for $2500, and will do so once the prices come down and a are more realistic.

If others also prefer the "look" of the older lens versus the new one, then the prices will only go up

Prices coming down? Dont count on it. You are better off just waiting for the world economy to collapse then get one, if you can afford it then.

So by Christmastime, then? I fear the main use for Noctiluxes at that point will be to concentrate the rays of the sun onto our piles of scrap lumber so that we can roast our rat dinners.

What goes up MUST come down.
What goes up MUST come down.
Everything has cycles. I can see if the lens was $1000 to $1500 more than in 1994 when it was $2300, but above $6000? I can buy alot of gold for that, and GOLD IS COMING DOWN! Another issue is that Voigtlander 35mm 1.2 is cheap by comparison, and would have greater focus accuracy being a wider angle lens.

In the 1990's, gold was roughly $300 an ounce, so it would cost about 8 oz of gold to buy a noctilux. Currently, the spot price of gold is about $730 an ounce, and used Noctiluxes seem to be going for around $5500, which works out to --- 8 oz.
Excellent example of how well gold maintains your buying power...
Sorry it this observation is off topic, but I couldn't resist
