i have just spent a few hours on the internet trying to track down possible options for a square format 35mm camera to add to my colection.
i have only really come across the berning robots and have narowed them down to the robot royal 24 as the one i would most like as it is a rangefinder and it is useable with modern film (from what i understand at least)
what other 24x24 cameras are there, i am looking to find a camera to use it so as long as it takes standard catridges that is my only spec. i dont mind if it is not a rangfinder and i dont mind if its made of plastic metal or anyhing
any options for me?

The Robot Star and Star II also take regular cartridges, though they lack an RF. I have a star and really love it.

The Zeiss Ikon Taxona is the successor of the Tenax.
I am selling one at the moment on German ebay which is in good working condition - if you are interested I can send you the link.

A while ago i said that i was going to convert one of my kodak instamatic cameras' to take 35mm, well guess what...it's done! I tried some really horrible things such as shoving a screw throught the middle of something which didnt really want to be messed with and so that didn't work very well...now i've managed to do it in a far more beautiful, camera consious way.
...and so, we are at peace once more.
PS: Iv'e kinda adopted a name for these modified gems...the 'CUSTOMATICS' {after custom and instamatic of course}.
I'll load a film up real soon and get some shots off pronto! really excited about this one! Woo Hoo! wonder what the frame size will be like?
(sorry for the rubbish photos, just wanted to get em up quick).

I got myself a Taxona (with the Tessar lens) a few months ago and ran one film through it. It's a really nice and fun camera to use, feels great in the hand. Here is is:
Of course it's not so simple if you want to obtain prints from your negatives

Also, the prewar and postwar Tenax I. The postwar version can be found with either the Novar or the Tessar although usually the Tessar.
The prewar version came fitted only with a Novar.
I have a prewar version but it needs some work. The postwar camera is a very capable machine.
The last time I brought a roll of color print film from the Tenax II to Ritz, I forgot to tell them. They cut the negatives correctly, although each print had about 1/4 of the previous and next frame. Sort of cool, in a way.
Not many camera makers jumped on the 24x24 train. Too bad. I really like the square format, and the Tenax II is one of my favorite cameras.
Here's a brief slideshow of a few photos from a car show.

It is no problem here in Germany. You get the prints in square format for the shorter side length - 13x13cm if you order 13x18.

From my current collection, Robot III and robot royal 24 use different take-up spools. Robot III uses "N" cassette, Robot royal 24 uses "NR" cassette. I would suggest you to collect a royal 24 or III. They would really give you surprise-winding the spring like a clock, then "s" mode 5 continuous shooting in 1 second, after all, it is a working rangefinder.

Anything for - Rapid - film.
Make sure you get some cassettes with the camera.
It is very easy to load 35mm film into the cassette.
Plenty about and they should be really cheap.

I also have a Taxona, but the Novonar lens type.
Have been shooting a bit with it and it is a nice small camera. Tempor shutter is a bit noisy for a leaf shutter, and would be great to have some sort of rangefinder, but I really like to shoot square format...
Some samples:
