Purelight is a small and very friendly forum - well worth a lookI do remember Ash from before he went off to Purelight. Actually, it's been so long since I looked in on them that my bookmark's out of date. I think I have an email somewhere with the new URL, but I didn't find much to keep my interest up last time I checked. Maybe I'll have another look.

I remember someone, somewhere recommending a little something (nail varnish?) to keep it in place.
Did you buy this 2nd hand? Perhaps somewhere down the line someone put a little something which is stopping you turning it.

No, brand new. Unless Robert White put something on the screw to hold it in place as part of their pre-delivery process, it should be clean.Did you buy this 2nd hand?

Well I finally managed to get the screw to move - too far, it unscrewed completely and disappeared into the gap under the top plate.
At that point I sheepishly packed it up and sent it to Protech Camera Repairs http://www.protechrepairs.co.uk/ who have done a great job for a reasonable price and turned it around very quickly.
So I'd like to publicly thank Protech and recommend their services to others here. And to thank them for not laughing at my botched DIY attempt.
