This is a pipe that had to be replaced in th early 1930's. Notice the Swastika. This part was made in Nazi Germany for Bethlehem Steel. It seems over the years, alot of the steel making technology was imported from Germany, including some who worked at the Bethlehem Plant
Here is a view from where they are storing a Battleship Canon looking out to the blast furnaces. I included Color here. The next one is in Black and White.
Both of you have some very nice images. Is the plant open where anyone can access it for photography. I'm assuming it the plant in Bethlehem PA??? No problems with guards / security? I shot last Monday at the old Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion plant on a job and did a few images of the abandon facility (2 buildings) but had some issues with security. It worked out fine but could have had problems if not handled properly. This is part of a nuclear weapons uranium enrichment plant where the enriched uranium for the first atomic bombs were made. I believe the thing that kept me from problems was I was shooting 5x7 film. The head of security asked if I was shooting digital 35mm ro what. When I explained I was shooting a historic documentation and on 5x7 B&W the mood changed in my favor. The LF gave credibility.
I find that very sad in SO MANY WAYS. The socially responsible thing would be to preserve this as part of the 'Save Our History' campaign since it's such an important part of the local and national history. Once it's gone, it's gone for ever like so much of main street America.
The world doesn't need another mega mall and casino!
Nice pics btw. It looks a great place to run some dedicated photo workshops for industrial archeology.
