Hi! I just got second hand R3A. I surprised that in finder focusing area is not in the middle. In manual it have draw to the middle.

I have no lens to it yet, but can it make difference? Please tell me have camera a fail and need to return.

In pictures have a manual and my drawing.

Just checked mine with and without a lens. With lens attached the focusing patch is in the middle. Whithout the lens the patch is hoizontaly in the middle, but vertically it is closer to the top.

In this one it doesn't be to any direction in the middle. My drawing is almost accurate. Packing was loosely done and I am afraid.

Thanks. How other owner?

New thing: When I push the cam on the lens hole, frame move nearer middle point and when horisontally middle, it is vertically some lower from middle - and that is the point where it stop too.

It moves about 10.30 - 4.30 o'clock direction.

Hu hu huh. Wish quite much my lens arrived soon! 😛 Afraid of possible flying boxes in post and accurate of focusing. Exposure metering seems work fine and camera is lika a new.

Have an R3M here. The focusing patch in this one is not centered. Rather, it is a bit left and a bit down from the center of the selected framelines --- southwest of center, if you think of a map. It's easiest to see using the 75mm or 90mm framelines.

Don't think it means much, though.

What you have told now, place for it seem to varies in different Bessas. Is there any fail in my new camera, is clear after first developed film.

In picture opposite place, when the cam is down so much it can move. 75mm frame.

That look very nice yet.

That looks very off.. The position of the focus window should not be dependent on whether you have a lens mounted or not.. It should always be in the middle.

Looks like your problem is worse than mine.. LOL I'm not feeling the Bessa love yet!..

Not true. On the current production R2A/ R2M /R3A /R3M R4A/ R4M Bessas, the RF patch is NOT centered in the framelines. The RF focusing patch is stationary. The framelines move independently of the RF focusing patch to adjust for parallax, which is a variable depending upon the lens mounted. No lens mounted like the OP will give no parallax adjustment for any lens. Based upon what you have written so far, your Bessas are working correctly.

Frames are moving. It is for a parrallax error compensation. I think it's fine. 😉

What you mean? What is OP?

ywenz,
I can move frames without a lens by pushing the cam down. You should try it too, so you see more. In picture middle you see the cam I mean, disk shaped.

You're right, but I thought without a lens mounted, the patch should be horizontally in the middle of the framelines but vertically towards the top, like what mike507 said. This is how it is on my R2A..

Look at my two drawings. There are two opposite position in my R3A. It seems very sensible, pushed down is for infinite (or near, can't know without any lens).
