Tried two 12575 hoods ( one with wide chrome band and one all black comes with current 90/4 Macro Elmar) and a 12575N ( also with wide chrome band) on my chrome fat tele-elmarit 90/2.8. They all fit loosely. The hood can be rotated freely around the lens. All the three hoods fit firmly onto the current version 90/4 Macro Elmar. It appears to me that the chrome fat T.E. have a deeper groove around the front rim of the lens that the rear row of the double trigger fastening does not fully engaged with bottom of the groove. Is this normal? I do not have the older version of 12575 (narrow chrome band) to try with.
Any advise and recommendation will be very much appreciated.

So what if it rotates? It fits, use it.

Thanks for the advice. I am using it all this time.
My question is: Is it normal? The fitness does not sound like precision Leica work. I am suspecting the springs on my old lens hoods are too weak to function properly. May be some fellow members who have used or own this lens can shed some light on the subject.

I've used the black FTE with the 12575 and was OK with it. The hood rotates but does so too on the newer TE (on which I use it, too). Like you said, it's a question of the springs inside the hood. Also, using a filter changes how the hood sits, in my experience.
If you are uncomfortable with it you might want to try the plastic 12538 hood made for the 50/2 v3. That one is tighter and a good hood for the 90, IMO.
Best,
Roland.

Even by exacting Leitz standards of manufacture, I think this matter is overly finicky.
My IUFOO (wide-band chrome) rotates freely on my three 90mm lenses: v1 chrome Elmarit, early collapsible, 3E Elmar. My 12575 (black band) rotates on the 3E, but is snug on the others. I'm not losing any sleep over this!

Roland and Rico,
Thanks for the valuable information and suggestion. I feel much comfortable now using the hood. I will try the 12538 hood as suggested.
Thanks again. Very much appreciated.

My IUFOO rotates freely, and even rattles when you shake the lens, which is the original "long" 90mm Elmarit with a removeable head. Just use it and worry less.
