Leica LTM Any advice on this is welcomed

Leica M39 screw mount bodies/lenses
Let's just say it's pretty & leave it at that.

Hello, RF_Newbie John,

Fear not, if you buy this camera, you will not be wasting money on a real Leica, but a nicely disguised FED with an Industar lens.

See:

http://jay.fedka.com/index_files/Page367.htm

- for a great "how to tell which is which" article.

Also, this camera is supposed to be a model II, but it's "serial number" says it should be a model IIIa.

But, heck, it might be fun to have a known fake?

Regards,

You all say the funniest things about my wannabe leica choices. i have a pretty good eye for fakes since this is my third one posted now an almost 3rd fake purchased.
hahahahah
Yes i am the proud owner of two (2) Feds already, i do not need a third at $100+ :(
Not that i mean to offend the Fed lovers or anything.

Flash as a rat with a gold tooth - and just as phony. Not that there's anything wrong with that as Seinfeld used to say. So long as its being sold as a fake, which it looks as if it is not! At least they have taken the trouble to "distress" the object as they say in the antiques trade. This at least is an attempt to make it look original - despite Leica never having made cameras in this livery.

I'm not an expert at spotting fakes, but this one has a few characteristics that tell me not to bother.

I've bought a few escaped-from-the-tractor-factory leicas before, but they were never advertised as being the real deal.

a later Fed 1 , look at that shutter release and its collar.
no Leica II had 1/25th of a sec as its slowest shutter speed.

the vf window on the front is a dead give away of its FSU heritage.

lol
i apologize for kicking this old dog but...
well i still think this "pretty" camera started off as a M body. Obviously it is not the ultra rare M3 Standard Luftwaffe Heer IIc (lol) but it could have been a trashed M that someone decided to soop up, right? . i guess it will be a Frankenstein camera forever now.
OK i know i really have a suckers eye for bad copys, but i am learning , with the help of the RFr's, to not be hasty while spending my hard earned dough...anymore. :D

Yep that whats got me to questioning this was the window, but the 1/25 went right buy me. I will defiantly watch for that.
lol
the window of my last Leica fake had the squared off window.

The "distressing" is quite interesting, although unconvincing. Looks like it could be a prototype for a Pottery Barn item.

That window frame flush with the top plate is perhaps the fastest way to spot a copy. Also the hole in the shutter button: Leitz never made them like that. I also look at the screws in the front. Leitz used black ones, and these are silver color. They are also larger than would be the case on the real McCoy.

The concensus seems to be that it's a Fed. I'm have called it a Zorki (I'm still learning myself).

Good catch, RF Newbie!

Technically you are not allowed to sell alcohol on ebay. What you are selling is a collectible bottle that happens to be full
:D

Especially since whiskey doesn't age outside of the barrel. That will taste as good or bad (as you will) as it did the day it was bottled. Since it's a blend, in theory it should taste exactly the same as anything from your neighborhood Stop&Pop.

I'd rather spend the money on the Fed from the OP...
