Hey y'all

Thought you might like this. Gary Winogrand was my upstairs neighbor during my youth, and my mother used some of his discarded prints for garden club posters. They somehow survived and here they are. I will make better copies sometime in the future.

This is Awesome. My downstairs neighbor doesn't even say hi or make eye contact when we cross paths, let along give me art that might someday be very rare. ;)

It shouldn't be too difficult to come up with proof that Winograd was your upstairs neighbor ~ school records, utility bill records and such could establish that.

No... You should contact the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson. They have the contact sheets there and it would most likely show up on a contact sheet somewhere. Do you have approximate dates of when this was taken from the trash?

"Nobody is really interested in buying prints." Those were his words.

Here is the contact at the CCP:

I'm going to forward this link to her.

These look like photos from Europe. He spent some time there. As I understand it, he wasn't too happy with his results.

hey all,

This is what I found out. This is from the CCP in Tucson, which houses the Winogrand contact sheets and archive. This is from their archivist:

Dear Gary,
We searched the Garry Winogrand contact sheets and found all of the images.
Man with mustache – London, 1967
People in car – London 1967
Café – Paris, 1967

The Winogrand photograph collection is not fully cataloged so I do not know if we have exhibition prints of these photographs. Please advise the person who took these from the trash that Garry Winogrand photographs are covered by copyright. He cannot print or reproduce them without permission of the copyright holders – Eileen Hale for the Estate of Garry Winogrand and Fraenkel Gallery, San Francisco.

Best wishes,
Leslie
