I have a problem with collectible cameras (even if I don't have a one). User is a user, once it's collectible item - how to use it in field or even accidentally drop on road?

I think camera makers would better make limited series of book, dedicated to event or maybe even doorstop in shape of given camera, made from fine and expensive material like very rare marble, butyfied with gems. That would be easy to "collect" and no fear to use :)

Maybe I'm wrong and limited series are made to be used hard, but then I'm stuck with number of them. Maybe it's intended as family kit - me, wife, one for each kid and one is a spare or gift for uncle Joe.

I disagree. For what it is, I don't think its overpriced. That is a very rare Rollei 35 set, probably the rarest commemorative Rollei 35 set. Of course it is not cheap and not for everyone, but neither is the standard production Leica M8.2 or 50/.95!

Are eBay pages worth something too? I mean, some of these prices are so rare, they must be collectible.

I wonder if nuclear physicists' diplomas are collectible too. I mean, they are quite rare.

I think it's cool. You could buy the box, then have photo parties - "I call the platinum one!" Send people all over town to get pictures of specific things, then meet back near a phtomat, drop the film off and go have dinenr. Come back and get the pictures and hilarity ensues!

The nice thing about them is you would never lose them. They are so distinctive if one got lost you'd be sure to get it back i no time, since everyone knows you're the guy with the fancy plated cameras.

It'd be awesome.

Maybe Bernard Madoff could buy the set and send it as a late Christmas gift to the SEC investigative unit guy who failed to detect his scam years ago.
