How many of you r-d1 enthusiasts got another one just because they are out of production? Yes I'm contemplating it....

I bought a second RD1, but long before they went out of production. I decided I ought to have a spare when my first one suffered the dreaded shutter failure and it was still unknown whether it was fixable. Turns out it was right about the same time Epson had he good refurb deals, so I got one of those...

Over the next few months I'm planning on getting at least one more - hopefully a 'new' (unused) model, especially after buying and returning an M8 which I found disappointing for my needs compared to the Epson.

The RD1 is probably overall the most satisfying digital camera ever produced for those of us that love film - both in ergonomics and results. I was really keen to get the M8 in the end, and super-excited when I held it in my hands, but the Epson files shine and the usability is really outstanding - it won't be as exciting to get yet another of the same camera, but I'm hoping to have at least one working for as many years as possible.

Yes- I have two. Hopefully not for parts, rather to avoid changing a lens. For me it is easier and faster to pick up a camera with the lens on and ready to go. Have worked that with film and now with digital

I have two, but I didn't buy the second as a backup. I started with an R-D1s and, once I'd heard about RF adjustment issues, decided to replace it with an R-D1. Alas, my R-D1s feels subtly better in the hands during use, so I haven't decided which one to sell yet.

As an amateur, it's less important to have a backup than if I were a pro. I figure that if/when my one body dies, I'll get another on the used market for less than they cost now.

Had a spare (R-D1s), but it "died": almost dead sensor unusable above ISO 200. Original R-D1 still fine... If a good deal for a 3rd one passes by...

I actually almost sold my one and only. Since I probably would've regretted it, I'm not thoroughly disappointed that 2 buyers changed their minds. No, I do not plan to get a spare.

Yours is the one that was tempting me. Was wondering what happened to your ad.

I bought a "spare", an R-D1 here in Tokyo months ago and I never used it (and neither did the original owner by the looks of it...) So gradually it has become a cross between a potential backup and an investment. Right now I'm sort of sitting on it so to speak - I had visions of alternating between both bodies but it never worked out that way...
