Leica M8 Passport

I've had my leica M8 for one year now, and I also have a 2 year passport. If I get bored of my camera in a year or so, what is to stop me utterly destroying it (dropping it into a swimming pool on holiday in France, or dropping it from an hotel window in Portugal?) in order to receive a new camera from leica? Even if leica know my name, they cannot prove this was not an accident, can they? And maybe I will have a real accident!!!

There is no Passport warrenty for the M8. Your 2 year warranty is not a passport. Leica stoped the Passport some time ago.
 
I'm afraid your facts are very wrong 'Points of View'. You have the wrong 'Points of View' Ha ha. A stupid one, maybe. No offence to you, sir! There is a Leica M8 Passport, and I have one. It's for two years, and leika will repair or replace a camera damaged by 'accident'. What does this conscience have to do with it? It'll be nice to have new LCD screen!

A bit crude, but on the whole I cannot disagree.

To the OP, a direct response to your question would be, "absolutely nothing."

And I might add - I know for a fact Leica reps read these forums.
 
Posted asking how to defraud a company all the while his real name is his user name. At least, I assume it's real; who would choose the name PhillipPieterson otherwise:

PP: here's a tip -- if enough Leica users do what you're advocating, Leica will be forced to end the Passport program. If it's just you, and maybe a few other people, well I'm sure customer duchebaggery is factored into their business model. 😛
 
They might repair your old one for you! Whilst it may in every respect seem OK, you will always have that nagging doubt that you bashed the living daylights out of it. You will also have to consider that you are causing financial damage to Leica and this can not be good if you like their products. Also the passport does exclude non accidental damage. If they considered it to be willfull damage (and I am sure they will be increasingly on the lookout the nearer the passport gets to 2 years) you may find your self without a useable camera. You would also be leaving yourself very short on good will if you subsequently had a real accident.

The more preferable alternative is to enjoy your existing cammera and start saving for an M9 just in case it happens. If it does not your M8 will certainly appreciate in value and I would recommend handling it carefully.

France? Portugal? Not only a thug, but a well travelled one!
 
In the 1980`s when the program ran in the USA, there were few claims for total loss.
All you had to do was present the item showing the serial number.

Fact is Leica owners just do not do that sort of thing. People who achieve a station in life where they can afford a Leica generally are not the underhanded deceptive types who would take advantage of someone else in this way.
 
Mr, if I was thinking seriously of doing this, I would just bang it against the floor and I wouldn't ask people for permission first. P.s Sir- can I ask which escort agency you get your models from please?

Welcome to RFF, Phillip. You've certainly made a big splash thus far!

Regarding your question, the fault I find is the premise that you would be "bored" with the M8 enough to want a free replacement. I suspect you would be "bored" with the replacement as well.

forget it, passport or no passport Leica wont give you a new camera; that's an old fable; but if you are so inclined try dynamite like the nazis did to keep their camera secrets from the russians.
