You'll need a decent hood. The one which Leitz made for the Summarit may be difficult to find and also expensive.

[edit] There's a current thread on the XOONS hood.

I took the Summarit f/1.5 for a spin this morning. This is the first time I'm shooting with it:

Yes, my lens was recently CLA due to lots of fog, but all the fog is cleared up. Except for a few fine lines on the second front element, it focuses spot on.

great photos, hacker!

re lens hood, i use this one from voigtlander. the round hood is $30, and the matching cap is another $20.

I do have the original hood, but today, I used a round, non-vented Leica 3.5cm/5cm Summicron hood as B+W does not take any more 41mm UV/IR filters on special order. I had to screw on the 40.5mm filter which works, but the hood will not fit.

Filter threads can be repaired in a few minutes for pocket money if you have a good tech. It's simply an lens outstanding - all versions (ignore anything negative written about it). I think the accelerating prices reflect that too.

i dont know how easy will be to repair this. it has a hole in ring like someone shot a bullet through 🙂 i dont know if hood is able to be used on it. reapair of that ring will have to wait. i will just have to be more careful about light sources when shooting.

Leicashop's description of lenses are extremely accurate. You can trust them.

Hacker,
Your photos with the Summarit are sharp, whereas my Summarit gives me dreamy images. I am tempted to repair mine, but I have been advised my many to leave it as it is. Maybe I "need" another Summarit.

Hacker,

Very nice photos, a question is there any haze or cleaning marks on your lens?

Those shots are really clean and that unique Summarit Bokeh is there, sometimes with strange dreamy "melted" lines and forms, (I still say this is Leica`s BEST 1950`s lens! and a lens EVERY Leicaphile should own) - my lens has like 25/30% haze, (you can`t see it with the naked eye but you can only see it with a flashlight, but it still is there) so I`m pretty sure I`m going to have it cleaned, while finding "minty" Summarit`s are like finding gold plated hens teeth!
