75mm f/1.4 Summilux Photos

Here is an example how sharp the lens is around f4 or so. On 100 Reala, Nikon 5000 scanner.

Cheers,

Roland.

PS: I shot this for my daughter, the girl you see ... Check out the fence below her.

Hi Cmogi10

have to say you have taken some stunning photos, and put up here. Have to ask these are on a film M yeh? with what film do you normally use, the guy with the lip ring, looks like neopan400.

You mentioned you have m8 at one point, i will be stunned if you favour this over film. IMO digital files with good glass looks great (i have rd1 with 50mm summilux, BUT use an m3 if thinking about shots a bit more. For me film still portrays life -

No doubt your going to prove me wrong here and confirm you use an m8...

Every single picture posted has been from the M8. I love the M8, not more then film, but as an equal. they both do things very well, albeit differently.

Recent 75/1.4 purchase

Recent 75/1.4 purchase

I should have made clear that $2500 is a good price for a Canadian 75/1.4. The German made lenses usually sell for a couple hundred dollars more.

Last Sunday, I bought a German 75/1.4 that was fresh like as if it were a demo. Sold without box or case the price was $1849.00 plus NYC sales tax. I also discovered this same lense was being offered at $2300.00 on E-Bay at the same time. I received the web page price without a fight. Thank God for computer errors!!!

Long live Zero APR financing!!!

Here's my very first frame with a 75mm Lux acquired two weeks ago. Thanks for all the guidance that helped me decide on this.

The focus is on the foreground right at f4. At f1.4 the background was soup. :)

M7, PanF + Rodinal 1:50

Rolo

i've been busy lusting after the Noctilux and barely gave the 75 Lux a thought until i tried it in a store yesterday.... oh my! what an amazing lens!!! the thin DOF at f/1.4, combined with the sharpness (but not clinically so) of the area in focus possibly made this the most superb lens i've ever used. truly stunning!

i took a mundane shot of a tripod leg in the store that shows it off beautifully, wide open on my Epson R-D1, JPEG straight from camera. i so want this lens!!!

this is most excellent

Thanks Rick,

I think I really like the Lux with film versus digital - just my opinion.

Cheers,
Dave

so you've finally made friends with it (i remember it was a little hairy at first). beautiful!!!

Hey Cam,

Ya.. it was hairy because I was using it strictly on a digital body - it looks to be "different" (for the lack of better wording) on a film body (i.e. M7)

Cheers,
Dave

Dave,

after processing the test shots, i see what you mean. there is a gracefulness in the plane of focus wide open on film that doesn't necessarily translate to digital (as your photo shows)... argh! probably not the right wording wither, but i understand what you mean. digital can be a little harsh.

again, really beautiful photo.

(and i'm still in awe of this lens)

i'm reviving this thread in hopes that someone can answer questions about getting a ND filter so i don't have to start a new thread....

i finally bit the bullet and will be getting one in a few weeks. mostly low light, indoor shots -- but i also thought it would be a hoot to use whilst sitting in outdoor cafes, sipping wine. i'm still using the Epson R-D1 which only goes down to ISO 200 with a fastest shutter speed of 2000. for sunlight, which ND filter would be best from all your experience? i would definitely like the option to shoot wide open.... also, how much of a pain is it getting the filter on and off (i'm getting a late German model with the built-in hood).

thank you in advance!

I use a 2-stop (0.6 / 4x) B+W filter and find that allows me to cater reasonably in many circumstances (using an M3 with a max of 1/1000 or Hexar RF with 1/4000 and sensible film choices). I find the filter quite easy to get on and off.

P.S. ..and, given the thread title, a photo:
