Hi,

Does anyone have any idea what the turnaround for repairs is for Leica UK? They've had mine for a week now, and I miss it terribly.... Been quite enjoying using the Konica Hexar AF, but it's just not the same....

Bypass them completely. They took a lense from me to send to Germany and it added an extra 3 weeks onto the service. My M8 upgrade, however, I sent directly to Solms. It was back with all the upgrades in a week.

Contact the Solms service department beforehand and they'll walk you through it...

September 12 2008 and still waiting.

My most recent enquiry last week produced a response advising that my lenses are now on the technician's desk.

Go straight to Solms. Leica UK take forever.

Too late, they've got it now. Think I'll give them a call on Monday to see what's happening....

I'd really like to hear recent experiences, just so I know what to expect.... If I get a crazy time estimate from them, I'll ask for it back and I'll send it to Solms....

Yeah, they are hopeless, most stuff is sent on to Solms anyway, so deal with Germany direct, much quicker

I must say I am inclined to agree that Leica UK are a bit of a waste of time. They make some assessment beore sending things to Germany but there are no repairs that they can do in England. The only thing they can do is replace if its a complete write off, but that is pretty rare. Leica UK are also not very helpful on the telephone in my experience as they too have to await what ever is happening in Solms. About 1 year ago I sent my M8 and a 75 lux off together hopeing to get the focus checked out. They were sent in separate shipments and did not meet again until they were returned to me!
I have discussed the delay with Leica UK and they explained that they will not send things off until they have a full consignment.
If there is one thing which would put me off as a professional thinking about using the M8 it is the time taken for service. (coupled with difficulty in affording or hiring a spare).

I sent in my M8 75 lux and a 28mm lens on 6th January. The 28 is back, no sign of the others yet!

Best wishes

Richard

Well, it ended up going to Solms anway, but I think that the camera is on it's way back to me now- they've replaced the LCD screen and told me not to shoot near strong light sources.

Mark, what in the world are they doing to your lenses?

Leica New Jersey received my lenses on 7 January to be coded. I'm still waiting.

My M8 when for a replacement LCD screen 6th Jan and nothing to report as yet. My 28mm lens (sent same time) was back in 5 weeks.

Incidentally i am curious about the LCD screen. Mine developed a brown line about 5mm in from the margin all the way tround. Did anything like that happen to yours?

What are they doing? Believe it or not, a standard cla on two 50mm f1.5 Summarits!

I've now received the invoice for payment, so the work has been done. I've been given a discount in view of the delay. Hopefully I'll get them back in a few days' time.

My Shutter has just failed on my M8, thankfully its under warranty.

I spoke to Leica UK and they now only ship to Germany once a week on a Wednesday.

I logged onto Leica Germany and registered as a pro and sent the camera directly to them. That was yesterday, so will keep you informed.

I've asked them as they will have to replace the shutter if they will offer a deal to upgrade to the new quiter shutter. Im not holding my breath !
