leica c lux 2

*sigh* so I've done my homework and the new gr is out of my price range, and I have to admit I want a zoom.

I am looking at the c lux 2 because it meets my requirements in that it is

a) digital

b) has a metal body (hurrah)

c) within budget (unlike the d lux and their panasonic equivalents)

d) has a wide angle lens

I know that it's reportedly noisey but having owned a gr digital this really truly doesn't bother me in the slightest. I'd rather that than it was 'smudged out'.

Also sacrificing manual options but I am a bit of an auto ninny, much to my shame.

I can't find a dpreview review but does anyone know anything 'real' about them?

I have a CLux-2 and I'm pretty happy about it (as far as matching expectations -- it's just a tiny digicam, right? 😉 ).

The positives are its tiny size, the screen (again, given its size) and the easy controls.

The downsides are pretty strong distortion of the wide-angle portion of the zoom (but, hey, it's not as big as my 18mm Zeiss Distagon either), and the focussing ability in low light (the active autofocus doesn't always get it right).

For what it is, it's a great camera -- for B&W'tized shots with it, check my blog and/or my flickr account...

P.S. I think Leica is about to bring out a successor (if it hasn't already), so you may want to check that one...

c-lux 2 is film, no? You might want to consider the panasonic equivilents - save some $ -- the lx-2 or lx-3 would be what you are looking for- - panasonic is doing some neat digicam stuff -- reasarch which models are out there

Nope, the c-lux 2 is definitely digital, no room to insert any film -- at least not that I could find 😀

As far as the Panasonic counterparts are concerned -- they don't have a red dot 😀. Seriously, though, although I have not tested mine against its Panasonic counterpart, I have heard that the firmware (especially the color management software) is different (and better -- whatever that means) in the Leica version...

I went for the c lux 2 as, although I'd be perfectly happy with the panasonic equivalent it doesn't have a metal body and also, now that the c lux 3 has been released they're trying to get rid of all the c lux 2's so I actually found one going cheaper than the panasonics 😀
