My jupiter 8 in LTM had been stiff from the beginning. While shooting one day it completely froze. I took it apart, and lubed it and it still won't move out of infinity! What's the deal? Is there something I'm missing here? Great lens and I'm missing it already...

Maybe you can tell her that's all caused by global warming.

My first J-8 that was on my 1965 Zorki 4 froze up like that.
I took it apart, but still could not get the helical to budge.
I ended up buying another J-8, but kept the optical module of the old J-8.

"Flim? You want flim?"
I had a very stiff Industar 61, in winter it would NOT budge. I sent it to Fedka for a CLA. But if you want some useful information, this is a Brian Sweeney question!

That is exactly my question!

Hmmm, I actually just got done putting my J8 back together, I used the instructions on this site http://pentax-manuals.com/repairs/j8service.pdf . Are you sure you screwed the helical back together correctly? That could prevent movement. After you lubed it, but before you put it back together did it screw in and out alright?
I'm no expert, but maybe the site will help.
Good luck,
Bradd.

I followed that site's steps.. it was frozen when I took it apart, and it's frozen still... everything is on correctly, just not working. I guess it's time to buy another camera with a Jupiter attached!
