Yes, I did see, and it took weeks of intensive self-examination to get over the urge to sell enough household possessions to raise the roughly five grand needed to bag the SP and external-mount 50/1.1.

(That self-examination being aided slightly by the fact that I haven't got enough household possessions to add up to five grand...)
 
I bought one of the SP's, and it is beautiful. Stephen rated it "user", it would have been "MINT" on ebay.

I also bought a 50/1.1 internal mount for it, which needed some tender loving care, but the lens is good now.

Can't afford the plastic hood, but I have a Tom A hood.

Now, I've lusted after the "M" but it looks just a touch too rough. Price is good though.

I have a 13.5cm Nikon mount lens. Tiny for it's focal length. But sharp wide open and fun to use on the G1.
 
We just came back from a week in Tokyo and on sunday (yesterday I think) we went to Sanpo Camera ( somewhere between Tokyo and Yokohama). In one showcase was a black S3M with motor, 50f1.1/35 f1.8/21f4/25f4 with hood and finder/ 250f4.5 and mirror housing and probably other stuff too The price was Yen 12 000 000+ (about $130 000). Nice kit, but sanity prevailed and I did not even consider it (and I would not have had the money anyway as Tuulikki very wisely pointed out).
I did not leave empty handed though = found a Canon 7 with a semi working meter for $90!!!
In Yokohame we wandered around for a couple of hours and we did run into a friend from NHS (name escapes me at the moment as jet lag is taking its toll) and he just came from a Nikon F meeting - you could obviously only go to the meeting if your F serial number started with 64 and you had a tick-mark lens on it!!!!! The rest of the members - about 7-8 joined us for coffee in the sunshine.

Hi Tom, welcome home! We must have crossed paths, because I dropped by Sanpou Camera and saw the S3M kit (link) on Sunday too! After spending 30 or so minutes standing by the cabinet drooling and pondering that maybe they made a mistake with the price and put one zero too many in there, common sense prevailed and I continued on my way and finished putting a roll of film through SP No. 308! Here's some photos of the S3M kit taken with my cell phone camera.

I was not in Japan this past weekend but did call our friend Keiko in Yokohama who had a birthday on March 29. As I dialed her phone number I did think of both of you and Gregory, my Japan-centric photography pals. I had some of my Japanese camera book/magazines and my S3 2000 on the desk, along with my S2 with the C/V 21 lens affixed for the day's shooting. Is it cherry blossom time in Japan? It is in our back yard as our weeping cherry is in full bloom.

I am tempted to get the chrome 35f3.5 lens Mr. Gandy has available to put on the beat up but CLA'd Nikon S I got from him a month ago.

Bob, greetings from Yokohama! It is indeed cherry blossom time here, though we had a cold spell for the last week or so (I think Tom brought the Vancouver weather with him ;)) and the cherry blossoms are not yet in full bloom. This weekend should be great!

Good, glad it will be nicer later in the week. I am really enjoying pouring over Bob Rotoloni's Nikon Rangefinder book. I was sick for awhile and it was a great diversion from the sneezing and coughing fits. By the way, I am really glad I got the SP 2005 and S3 2000 from you. Given the economy, I would not do it now but glad I did it last year. Thanks.

Oh, I goofed: our friend Keiko is in Osaka. Just found out our friend Yuki is moving to San Francisco Bay Area this year so now my Japanese camera magazines can get translated for me! :)

Still looking for a Cosina Voigtlander double shoe if you ever see one at the camera stores.

Jon, its the other way around - the cold japanese weather followed us home!
It was great meeting with you at the PIE. Indeed we must have crossed paths on sunday. Shintaro took Tuulikki and me for a "outing". I had been there before, but it was the first time for Tuulikki. We both liked Yokohama - almost european in style (natural, if one considers its history).
Not only did we meet the "F 64....." group, but also a large volume of small dogs = all dressed up, and in this case, somewhere to go - the seafront park. We visited the North Korean "spyboat" museum and just rambled around for 4-5 hours.
