Develop in my kitchen, then scan the negatives. I would like to try making a print sometime.

Citizen Photo on SE 7th here in Portland. I did it myself for some time but I like the guys down at the lab and they do a great job for me. I do my own scanning.

off season- tri-x in master bathroom.
busy work season- C-41 xp2 at a local lab a block from my office.
I have them develop only and take them home to see which rolls I want scanned. Then drop the good rolls off and have the lab put all the rolls on one CD for a exceptionally reasonable price. My wife send her clients their for prints, so they help us out with good deals. I hope they can stay in business during this recession. They do a great job.

I'd always read that the amount of usual B&W photo chemicals most people would be putting into the septic tank won't cause any problem. At least we don't use things like mercury intensifier anymore for salvaging underexposed negatives.
What we do put down the drain is pretty well diluted by all the washwater.

I've got a couple jugs of used combined dev, stop, & fix in my garage. I just put the wash down the drain. Sometimes I wonder if it matters.

Printing I do myself (wet darkroom). Developing I either do myself, if I have the time (less time now w/ a 5 month old son!), or have a local lab (Photolab in Berkeley) do the negs for me.
My darkroom is at work, which isn't always convenient. Fine if I want to stay late and work on something (although not so fine with my wife sometimes), but a pain if I want to do something on my day off, and have to drag my butt over to Berkeley...
