I thought this was cool. So I went to NY to see a concert, kind of an obscure Progressive Rock band.
I asked ahead of time if I could shoot the show with my D300 and never got a response. So I decided to take my Zeiss ZI and 50/2 Planar for street shooting.
When I got to the show I was in the second row center and no security around and decided to bring out the ZI with some 400CN that I had left.
It worked great in those conditions and I posted a few picks on my Flickr.
I later got a message from a magazine that was doing an article on the main member and the new band and asked if they could use some of my pics since the ones the bands photographer shot weren't very good.
I said sure as long as you give me credit on the pics.
Just got the new issue and they used 2 of my pics in the article!
Thought that was pretty cool! ok so it's not Time or Vanity Faire but it was nice to see my pics in print especially from my ZI.

Flickr is becoming quite the marketing tool these days. This is the 4th story I've heard about getting discovered because of Flickr.

Congratulations, it is always a treat to see your stuff in print. Once you start doing it regularly, you will of course develop a love/hate relations ship with editors - who cheerfully cut your pictures to make room for ads!
Post the pictures here too so we can see them. please.

Congratulations! Now that you've "proved yourself" follow up by contacting the band, the concert promoter, and whatever magazines you can think of. Try to pick up some paid shoots! At the very least you can most likely start getting both free passes to the concerts but probably backstage passes as well. Hit some of your local music stores and let them know that you're available too. There are tons of unknown groups that can use good pictures.

I actually use to do tons of band shots in the 80's and did all of Steve Vai's photography back then when we were both poor.
He's just made a heck of a lot more money than me now! lol

Yes Trey Gunn plays what they call a Warr guitar it's 10 strings I believe.
I'm not sure how it differs from a Chapman Stick, but he also plays it with King Crimson.

I had trouble enough keeping 6 strings in tune. I gave my Yamaha to my son.

Oh yeah it was wide open! if it had been an SLR I would never have been able to hold it still long enough. I was kicking myself for not having a the 50 sonnar.
