Boys, simply accept it (better: read and understand why) that such a thing as converting mercury based lightmeters can not exist.
Buy real mercuries or as a second option Zn-air batteries. Don't throw your money out the window for so called conversions.

Actually, converting them can and does exist. What I have a problem with is the recalibration. If it is done right, and the device wasn't badly off to start with, no recalibration should be necessary -- every needle-type handheld light meter I have ever seen has an adjustment screw. To convert something from a 1.35 volt mercury battery to silver oxide, it is necessary to solder an appropriate shottkey diode in series with the battery holder. This reduces a silver oxide battery's 1.5 volts to 1.35. However, doing this is expensive and unnecessary when it is so easy to make an adapter out of one of the so-called "replacement" alkaline cells that will allow you to use dirt cheap zinc/air batteries.

So if you will tell me they were forbidden out of environmental reasons I can only answer you that this is a big lie and in my opinion they were forbidden as it was in the interest of the industry.
Please don't get snippy with me on this topic, Eugene... go have this fight with the legislators. In terms of usage, risk/harm and proper disposal you have an arguement and I, for one, wouldn't mind seeing you put your data up against theirs. I have no dog in that fight. Good luck, amigo.

Oh Jesus! Look guys, if you want an adapter, just buy a 625 alkaline "mercury replacement cell" (that won't work right), punch the middle out of it, ream it a bit, and you've got an adapter for 675 zinc/air cells. It works fine and 675 zinc/air cells are dirt cheap.

I just don't like to be suspected by folks I would make a fortune when I am not, especially not if these persons talk without even asking what I would ask for a battery.
For clarity... you were the only one who put "fortune" in the conversation; I simply pointed out that you might be violating US law. As a Repulican and an entrepeneur I sincerely hope all people who go into business both make lots of money and abide by the laws. I hope that clears things up.
So how much do you want for a pair of PX-13s?
