Hi everyone,

I'm back with another compatibility question. :D

I'm interested in the leitz summaron 3.5cm f3.5, but i realised the design is like th Elmar. Just wondering if the focusing level(handle?) will hit or block by the bayonet mount of a Canon 7?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks
Max

Thanks for the reply. I tired putting a Industar 50 (elmar copy) on my canon 7, if I screw it in, the back of focusing handle, a little knob, will be block by the bayonet mount. And if I were to release the focus lock before mounting the lens, the lens can't focus to infinity because of the handle being block at 20m.

Ah, OK, I understand now - you mean the additional diameter of the mount.

I had this problem with a LTM 2x optical adapter - anything with an infinity lock fouls before it reaches infinity.

Sorry, I misunderstood your query. Maybe you will have to go for another lens, or have a tech remove the focus catch.

so its a no-no...really like the lens...:(

Thanks for the replies :)

Actually it works just fine. I just tried it with my Summaron and my Canon 7. The lens screws on completely and stops just shy of any possible interference between the infinity lock and the 7 bayonet lug.

Same with Elmar 50/3.5, Elmar 35/3.5, and Hektor 28/6.3 on my Canon 7s. The infinity stop parks at 7O'clock, and thus clears the extended flange. Canon made lots of lenses with the same infinity catch design, and they wouldn't cut their own throat.

You might have problems if there was a tolerance build on the thread starts of the lens and camera, and it could go too far past 7 O'clock.

Of course, there's probably lots of Canon P owners out there who would be glad to swap flanges with you to be able to use the 50/0.95 on their P. (Of course both cameras would need re-collimation.)

Summaron E-39 filter mount is a very uncommon lens.....made for the Leica IIIG, so I don`t think people know that this DOESN`T look like a Elmar 35 at all!

It sits much deeper and the front is wider hence the E-39

I`m getting one in from Germany in about 3 weeks, so I`ll post photos....

Tom,

Is the "standard" Summaron a 36 filter mount lens?

Really? My industar 50's infinity mark parks at between 8-9 o' clock. Just nice, after the protruding part of the mount at 7' o clock. So the focussing handle is block between the infinity lock and the bayonet mount.

Can you show me a pics? If its not too trouble:p

Tom,

Is the "standard" Summaron a 36 filter mount lens?

Yes, the first version of the Summaron 1951 to 1956 is A36

The second version 1957 to 1960? is E39 (not that many were made in LTM) they had the design change to match the IIIG cameras better *look more modern*

If your question was about using a 35mm Summaron 3.5 screwmount lens together with a Canon 7, no problem at all. :)

One photo taken with this combo:
