There is a new, and final edition of the very interesting Leica O Type II prototype!

Without the silver print from an original Barnack negative, the new version has a considerably lower price, only $995!

If you appreciate the history of 35mm Photography, that is a bargain price!

Contact Tony at PopFlash.com to order !

Seriously? They keep putting these out every few years ... I like my original 0 (hence my screen name) but these look good, too, except I don't like the picture of Barnack on the back and am happy mine doesn't have it.

I'd like to see what the back looks like, any link to a photo? I almost bought the first version back when b&h was selling them for $995, but they sold out before I made up my mind... I think I like the II finder better... don't know about the photo on the back. thanks!

While I have been 'making do' with a Bessa T and CV Collapsible Heliar 50/3.5 as pseudo-Leica O, I still would like to have one of these one day.

...my original 0...

Is your Leica O not a Type II? I know what your Leica O looks like(I have the LFI article), if there is a difference, any links to photos of the Type II?

Thanks,

$995?! makes me wonder why the m-series costs so much more. take away the fixed lens, and it's just an extra rangefinder assembly, bigger top plate, and a lens mount.

The Anistigmat lens is terrific. I am a little surprised they are using that price point... it kind of hoses the second release versions that have been selling for more than this in the open market. I am happy I have the type I with the gun sight "finder".

Anyway, they are really fun to use and losing the picture on the back is a real plus :)

Like kdemas, mine is the original 0-Series issue, with the fold-up "gunsight" finder. The Type 2 has a straight-through finder like the Leica A or Leica Standard.

We should all back the production of ANY film camera here IMO, especially a vintage reproduction. Stephen thanks, I will check this out

I've got the first, folding viewfinder version, and pull it out every now and again for a roll or two. Very fun camera indeed.

What a pretty little "trinket" ~ I just wish that Leitz would come out with a more modern repro of a classic camera (they need another M6J) a M3 based looker, while the MP isn`t enough, it just looks like a M4 without the engraving`s......

Nikon got it right in doing their S3 and SP limited editions.

Let Leitz move back to Wetzlar as planned and then come out with a M3 tribute with REAL Wetzlar engravings "back to the future" sense and just offer it it chrome as the first M3 was!
*Ohh and a repop 50 Summilux Asph in old clothes would`nt be bad either on it*

IS ANYONE AT LEICA LISTENING?

From one South Floridian to another:

It's a small camera using this new stuff called film. It's ideal for people who hate cutting glass plates down to 24x36mm. It's very cutting edge technology, but ideal for wimpy photographers who are afraid of cutting their fingers on glass plates. For years many cameras had the intial "F", or sometimes "f", in their names, no doubt because they were "film" cameras. Examples would be the Leica III-f and the Nikon F, both popular professional grade film cameras in their day.

Ahhhh, and that new Leica is called the S2 because it works with sparks and electrickery and what-not ? It is all becoming clear now....

What the hell is a Leica O Type II? or Type I?:eek:

In 1923 leica built as pilot run of 30 or so cameras prior to commercial production.
In 2001 they first reproduced the same camera (with a few changes - modern lens and cassette loading).

Here's my Type I Null series ( M6 and minox for comparison )
The Type II has a better viewfinder as per the leica standard.
The crosshair finder on the Type I is similar to using a modern digicam - with a 1/2" screen :bang: so I use a SBOOI 50mm OVF.

The O series is superbly compact and easy to use, but you have a steep learning curve first.
You need to reprogram your brain to cap the shutter before winding on, and to change shutter speed (if required) half way through winding on.
The lens and small size and weight make it a nice jacket pocket camera.

Wellll, this time round I hope not :/

Well, I think a BRAND NEW Chrome Leica M3 with a Retro Style Clothed Chrome Asph Summilux 50 would be a pretty darned nice new toy, :) especially with
"in camera" metering and a 0.85 mag VF.

that`s only a dream.....
