This is my first post in this section of the forum and I've only been a member for a short time. I've wanted to post a photo since I got the camera a few weeks ago but have had so little time lately.

I had my first roll of film developed and was surprised that everything was in focus and the colors so vivid. I wanted to start with B&W film but couldn't find it locally so had to order online.

When the camera arrived everything was in working order but somehow I managed to loosen the ASA / Light meter dial (which still works). Is this a major repair? If so, I may need to send it somewhere.

Now, with the second roll of 'practice' film loaded, I can't wait to get out and take photos again!

Thank you both so much for reading and commenting. 😀 I can't get the scans to look as good as the photos and I do know how to use a scanner. 🙄 I'll include one anyway. None of the photos are interesting. I was just taking the camera for a test drive. I was just thrilled that all were in focus.

The Retina IIIc was the third classic camera that I bought when I got back into photography. It's a nice camera, very reliable and has a terrific lens.

Regarding that ASA dial, use the ends of a paperclip to tighten it.

Congratulations on your Retina. That's a very nice camera that you have.

Thats the wonderful thing about the Retinas. They are small enough so that you can bring them wherever you are going. 😉

It sounds like you chose good cameras for your re-entry into photography. 🙂 Thanks for the congrats for letting me know how to tighten the ASA dial!!! I will try that ASAP!!

Very true! It fits in my large camera bag perfectly but could easily fit in my backpack / handbag. 😎 ...and it looks so good!

Yes! That's a very good way to describe the Retinas! My digital Rebels are beautiful and I enjoy looking at them 🙄 but they are not elegant.

This might lead you down the slippery slope of classic cameras. Not a bad thing for your photography but possibly not good for your bank account.

You might eventually want to check out the Retina IIa. It has the same Xenon lens in a slightly smaller body. The wind lever is on the top.

The only downside is that most will need to be serviced. Always ask if the frame counter is working correctly when buying the Ia or IIa.

Here is my Retina IIa (I know that I've shown this before):

Nice to see a great camera giving you joy.
The IIc/IIIc are very handy cameras.
Just to share my experience: The additional lenses like the 35mm/f5.6, the 80mm/f4 are rather cumbersome to work with (also you need and additional VF). So you can save the expenses and buy a .....II/IIIC or a IIa. This wisdom comes from a guy who bought them all and has them sitting in a cupboard (taking them ot periodically in a fit of gear testing)

I feel myself slipping! 😉 My husband keeps telling me that you can never have too many cameras, too! ...like I need more temptation and arm twists 😉

Your IIa is absolutely beautiful! <there's no emote for drooling on keyboard> I doubt that anyone here minds it you let us look at it again. 😀

Thank you for the buying advice! I need all that I can get because this is a new area for me. When I started researching the Retinas, I gave myself system overload and had to take time to regroup. 😱

Thanks Des! I just shot some B&W and am anxious to finish the roll. Thank you so much for the info on the lens. I haven't gotten that far in my obsession yet but it's probably inevitable. 😉

You must have some incredibly beautiful photo ops in Vienna!
