For some reason, I like to take pictures of workers.....not so sure yet why....I actually work alot myself, but something about watching/photographing people do different forms of work throughout the world interests me......and yes, I am fan of Salgado's work..........cheers, michael

Around my town, the construction workers get nervous about people with cameras. Too many migrant workers without the correct visas, and shonky building practices.

Chris,

is that (or are you) for real?

Or is it just a sign of the times and people's f'ed up perception of photography and security.

I like workers as well. I only got confronted once though by a forman scared that we were taking video of his non OSHA certified workers. Why he told us that, I don't know.

It's not paranoia about photography in general he's describing.

If you're illegally in the country, employing people illegally, or building out of code, you're 1) going to be hesitant to willingly let anyone record evidence of your crime/culpability and 2) be suspicious that any photographer is a potential agent of a law enforcement or regulatory agency.

In any case, it's off the topic of the fantastic photos being posted...

I can kinda understand that, though I've never had security swoop down on me on a work site (I've had them swoop down on me at other places!). I did a shoot for an ad agency whose client was a commercial painting company. I did photos of the entire painting 'team', which was about 40 people. These shots were used in advertising, on their website, etc. Turns out most of them were illegally in the U.S., and the owner of the company had 20 vehicles seized, 5 houses where he was housing all of these guys, and he was found guilty of knowingly hiring them, money laundering and who knows what else. He's going to be sentenced in September and he could get 15 years in jail. So I can appreciate the potential for that kind of security paranoia.

Now back to photos....
