Looking for reputable lens repairman in Toronto area

Hello,

My hasselblad CFE Planar 80/2.8 lens has a loose front element. I am looking for some one who is able to fix it, equipped with proper wrench and tools, preferably with MTF equipment to check/adjust everything after repairs that infinity will work and meter scale would be accurate. (I had very bad experience with camera repairs in Toronto, probably worst ever, so pardon me stating clear what exactly am looking for).

Best if it is located in west part of Toronto up to Hamilton, and if I can drive in, get my lens repaired, and leave in an hour or two. Fixing in place the front lens should not take a long time.

Recommendation on how to disassemble front shield and screw in the nuts by myself are also welcome.

I don't recall the 80/2.8 being that complex to take apart. That front ring is a cosmetic ring, and needs to be removed, to expose the lockring for the front lens. I think a large diameter rubber tool (like a sink plug of the correct size) was all that was needed to unscrew the cosmetic ring. The lens lock ring is slotted, isn't it?

Yes, I just looked at mine.

Use a big rubber ring to remove the first cosmetic ring. That should come out, and release the hood bayonet ring. This will then expose the lockring for the first lens group. I think the lockring for the first lens itself is behind the lockring for the lens group.

For Toronto, I might try Kindermann first (look in the phone book, or google Kindermann)

This is probably only a starting point, but check with Kinderman Canada, which is somewhere in the Toronto area. There is, or recently was, a man by the name of (trusting to memory here) Gerry Smith, at Kindermann. At any rate, find Kindermann in the phone book and give them a call.

Gerry at Kindermann did a really great job with my DR Cron that was half knackered. I would expect he would be able to work on your lens, or at the least know who to send it to.

I checked kindermann.ca. They are a bit off my regular routes located in Markham but if they can do a good work (they advertise leica and rodenstock service primarily) I'll give them a try.
