The danger is that once those 1-hour processing places are gone, film sales will drop like a rock from their already depressed levels. Which, of course, will raise the price of film dramatically. Think about the prices folks are paying for Kodachrome now.

Yeah.. film isn't going anywhere... it's just gunna get REALLY pricy... especially C41 and E6 that's difficult (if not impossible for some) to do at home. I can do B&W with a changing bag and a bathroom sink... but I have about 2 square feet of counter space to work with... so I can't be doing multiple temp controlled baths or tanks etc for C41 or E6.

Discussing politics here is not allowed. Perhaps we should add moaning, groaning, retailer bashing, Walmart cussing, etc.

E6 isn't that hard to do, really. I've done hundreds of rolls over the years in a hotel bathroom sink and hung them in the shower to dry. Now, E3, that was when men were men!

Aw, c'mon Wayne ... I complain about very little, don't get cross NEARLY as much as I used to ... but Wal-Mart. Man, that's sacred ... er, profane to me!
However, it is good to know that 120/220 C41 is so inexpensive. What little resistance I had to shooting some 120 is weakening even further. :bang:

Now THAT is funny!

Seems like a valid topic to me. W*M is everywhere and keeps prices low. With them getting out, if nothing else, it seems like an indicator that it just isn't selling; it's not a positive sign. Having said that, I think there will always be availability, just less convenient.
One local W*M already does send-out-to-Fuji-only. The other one currently has a Fuji machine working away, but they'll stop film processing soon, I just learned. However, the clerk indicated that their Fuji machine would stay and you could use their kiosks to order prints. I guess it's just the film part that goes away.
I got my recent prints done at Wolf, but they aren't cheap! I thought I always got good results from W*M. Now I just have to decide if I have the patience to wait for them to be sent out. (At one W*M, they list return times of 5 days. *5*! Now I'm whining!)

I remember reading somewhere that Walmart's decisions re: film are connected with an effort to class up store interiors by opening up the aisles and getting rid of some of the clutter. Part of that process is determining which sections of each store are the profit winners and which the losers. That determination will vary from store to store. One store may run the numbers and decide revenues will increase by cutting the space devoted to in-house film work and adding it to the office supply space. Another store may do something else entirely. In both cases, they're trying to optimize use of floor space.

Not a big drop since film is only 2% of the current market. We're going extinct FAAST.

Only using walmart "send out" for 120....
Only using walmart "send out" for 120....
I'm hardly shooting 35, and since finding out how to do the "send out" service for 120, that's my only concern. I did stop by Walmart yesterday and spoke with the film processing manager. She said they are going to move the department within the store, and she seems not concerned that they are going to drop film processing. In any event, they will continue the "send out" to Fuji labs. I may go to the new Walmart Super Store in the next town (13 miles) and see what they are doing now/and/or planning.

Sorry to join the conversation late...Here in Indy WalMart has stopped in-house processing of film and has send-out service... My local store has even stopped carrying film, except for one-time use cameras. Film was literally there one day and two days later it was gone.

I picked up some 120 & 200 film from Walmart last Friday. $0.84/roll. 120 or 220. Same price. Shoot LOTS of 220!

I just picked up 4 rolls of XP2 Super in 120. Did process and 3x5 print (6x7) and they charged me $8.88 per roll. I know that a roll of Tri-X gets sent out to Fuji and then Duanes and it runs $8.88, but I thought that C-41 was cheap. I asked them to check on prices, but they didn't have any list and the 800 number was un-staffed. Does this sound like the right price for 120 with ten 3x5 prints?
BTW... they did a very nice job .. so no complaints on that end.

The price I quoted is 120/220 C-41 developed only. I scan & print myself. $8.00 for 10 prints isn't great nor is it outrageous. Where else can you get it done? Do some online comparison shopping.

No, that isn't the point of my post. When I send in Tri-X it gets sent on by Fuji to Duanes and it runs $8.88. Their price for this service (C-41) is an in house Fuji and I remember seeing it posted at less than half this price. $0.80 per 3x5 print for a process and print at Walmart is high. Of course, it gets done.

Walmart used to have a price list for outside services. It's my understanding that all 120 & 220 film is sent from the Fuji lab to Dwayne's. I didn't confirm that with Fuji.
