Hi all,

Just want some advice and experiences with tools for handling the workflow with raw files frome RD-1. My first concern is simply to view and delete both ERF/jpeg files in one operation. Otherwise the PhotoRAW seems sufficient. Any ideas? Also if someone is using Lightroom I would be happy to hear experineces. It seems a bit overkill from my needs?

All input apreciated!

On Mac you can do this in the Finder. But I import everything into Aperture anyway. First I run a batch rename using Automator, and then I import into relevant projects in Aperture. I then browse through the shots deleting, rating, and stacking them in more than one pass. If I'm in no hurry to get something bigger finished, this will happen over a longer period of time. It's easy enough to filter the images such that you never see the bad ones, but nevertheless what's the use of keeping those that have no other significance.

I haven't used Lightroom too much, but it should do pretty much the same stuff as Aperture, so I recommend it.

I use Lightroom and like it enough, although Aperture is nice as well. You can't go wrong either way. I import everything into Lightroom and then make a quick pass getting rid of really terrible shots, maybe doing a quick collection of good stuff, then I go back through from the beginning working through the files.

Because I have several cameras and I always shoot RAW, I use Adobe CameraRaw for all my work. I am on version 4.6 and Photoshop CS3. I have set my defaults for the RD-1 at "as shot" for color "default" for exposre, Sharpness at 40 and detail at 30, and "Adobe Standard Beta" for the camera color defalut. The newest camera profiles are available at the Adobe website.

After importing the image, I then make further adjustments as needed and open in Photoshop. The settings above were just my starting point.

If I need to crop or enlarge, I use Genuine Fractals, set my printing resolution at 330 dpi and use thier default sharpening settings for the final image.

I have been able to successfully print 13 x 19 images at ISO 800 without any noise! The quality of images are far superior to my 10mp Sony Alpha at ISO 400.

I recently printed a 8 x 10, shot hand held at 1/13 second at ISO 1600 and the results were equally as good. No noise reduction was necessary. Who needs image stabilization with a rangefinder camera !

Hope this helps
