Is the M Heliar RF coupled below .7m?

No. It's not a problem wth the lens, the rangefinder lever arm in the camera doesn't go any further out.

If you're taking pictures of food, on a table get one of the small table tripods. They can be pocketed, and though the position of the tripod on an M body is a bit awkard (not sure about the Bessa? which is presumably in the middle) one can still take advantage of the extra stability..
