the lens is expensive considering...

tony rose has them listed for 877 u.s.
this time around i went with a canadian supplier of zeiss gear to avoid the delay of
longer shipping and a stay at customs. the cost was 920 cdn., so it was actually cheaper
when the currency conversion is factored in and cheaper shipping.
the hood is off the chart as far as i am concerned and i didn't have the ready cash for it.
i will eventually get one though as prefer to have a hood for my lenses.

These samples look as though this lens could give the Summarit75 a run. Sure there is one stop between them and a bit more reach with the TT85. Twice the price for the Summarit seems off balance for sure.

Wow! Back alley never disappoints us .........

This lens and the CV 90/3.5 are, given their specifications, in the family line of the Elmar 90mm, though they are optically more complex and advanced and for that reason much sharper. On an R-D1 the lens will give the flattening, compressing effect of a 135mm but the depth of field of its actual focal length: not a bad thing, as the photos show.

after waiting for so long to get this lens i just wanted someone to notice the shots taken with it...not looking for grande critiques or anything...

yes, a 2.8 would have been perfect for me too but i am ok with a 4. today i shot with the rd1 set at 1600 and these shots look ok to me.

And the same Zeiss has never disappointed me. RD1 at ASA1600 looks so good, the beauty of digital sensor.

I like the Zeiss sizzle that these images present. I've been looking to pickup a 90/85 for my Ikon ZI. Based on other posts the Elmarit 2.8 has been on my list, but I'm getting from these comments that this lens might just be a bit sharper wide open, than the Elmarit at f/4.0 and smaller to boot.

You've put this lens on my 'list' - which is starting to get damn long. Very nice shots. I guess it being f4 may actually help with focusing on the R-D1. I know if it were a 2.8 or 2 or whatever, I'd always be shooting it wide open.
