M9 will create depression at the Canon and Nikon booths at Photo Expo Plus

I believe we rangefinder users sometimes overestimate our significance to the rest of the photo world. Is this not a bit like Ford & GM (Toyota & Honda ?) worrying about what impact the new Ferrari will have on their sales?

I should have been a little clearer. Canon's CEO is Fujio Mitarai. I'm not sure who Jouko Tuominen is. The name sounds Finnish to me. Definitely not Japanese.
 
The guys is CEO of Canon Svenska AB according to the rumor. I wont' be surprised this actually turns out to be true. It would be interesting to see what they come up with after the pixel and full frame war.

Unless they've shrunken the 1Ds MkIII to the size of a D50, I'm not particularly interested.

If, however, they've brought it down to the form-factor of a G11, I might want to pay attention. The last bit of money Canon got from me was for a new A-1, way-back-when. I've already "done my part." 😉

I just came into an unexpected sum, enough for an M9 or a D3x. I've been shooting Nikon for over 30 years. The D3x just does not do anything for me. I use a D1 and an E3 at home, and a D1x at work. I paid as much for the D1x as a D3x cost.

Now, an M9 to use an uncoated Zeiss Sonnar 5cm F1.5 converted to LTM mount, Tempting. I guess you could tell that to the guy in the Nikon Booth.
 
just as long as the M9 keeps Leica's books in the black, rather than red! I fel that the M9 is only a couple of evolutions away from all you would ever need in a DRF. Then Leice can settle down and keep the same product slowly evolving. By the time we get to a FF DRF with 25-30MP, better high ISOs and glitch free, what more do you need to do what people did with film Ms for 50 years? I am praying for Leica to now get more affordable small lenses out, rather than the fancy stuff 😉
 
Leica has always commanded a premium. In the 1960's, a Leica was in the $600 range. In 1991, the M6 body was $2,500. I would like to see a Digital CL type camera. But keeping the cost to under $7K for a full-frame, 18MPixel camera with the innovations required to work with wide-angle lenses and a thin IR absorbing cover glass should not be trivialized.
 
Leica and electronics have never ever matched, the M8 proved this once again. I would be surprised to see if the M9 is really much better. The only good thing with the M is the size of the camera and the lenses, in all other aspects, a Nikon D700 / D3(x) or a similar Canon beats the crap out of the M9.
 
Yes, the big heavyweights usually beat the featherweights. 🙂 The M8 had issues for sure, not unlike the issues both Canon and Nikon have had as well. All three companies were on the ball and took care of their customers, that's what counts.
