On the Luminous Landscape there is a HD video of M9's being assembled at Leica in Germany! VERY INTERESTING AND INFORMATIVE!!!

Interesting, but I think I'm getting M9 burnout. It's a camera. Good.

That was amazingly boring!

On the positive side, I now know how to take one apart and what to expect.
On the negative (disappointing) side, is the most skilled task that they do, is to manually shim the sensor and to clean the sensor? You don't need three years of fine-mechanic apprenticeship for that.
And why so much manual recording of data? Any modern plant would simply scan the information and enter any other additional data by keyboard.
Don't get me wrong, I hope Leica sells truckloads of the M9 and gets back into the black.

I'd love to see a companion video from the canon factory. Just for contrast.

Way interesting. I've never seen the inside of any camera factory before, and this is one that has produced a few things I use!
Good job shooting it, to the people who did so, and thanks to Leica for opening the kimono.

I thought it was cool how they calibrate the rangefinder and clean the sensor...thats about it though.

is it just me, or is vimeo staggeringly slow?

I could not hear every word, but did I understand the German MC to say they kind of matched individual sensors to particular control boards?
I also enjoyed the use of the sticky stuff to get the dust off the sensor. For all I know other companies do the same thing, but it is still a good illustration of attention to quality.

Absolutely!
Probably highly mechanised, robotized.

may not be canon camera's, but it is a detailed video on the process of making canon lenses.

I liked the clanging/banging noise at the beginning. That's how I get my balky eletronics working again, too.

Gee, I hope that's not my camera he's tinkering with!

We're all light!
It's been that way at Canon since the AE-1 (and, after that, the New F-1 [last model]). Not that much new stuff there. After all, they largely started the ball rolling in terms of automated production in the camera biz.Absolutely!
Probably highly mechanised, robotized.

Very cool. I saw a making of the M7 video awhile ago.
I think the best part is how they calibrate the rangefinders.
And where can I get that sensor cleaner. She made is seem so easy. If it were just as simple as using a sticky gel thing on a stick I'd be set.
And yes, he did say that control boards and sensors are matched pairs. I'd really like to know how that testing goes. Probably in a Kodak factory.

Portuguese Skills then are the key to the M9
Portuguese Skills then are the key to the M9
I guess if there are only minor adjustments in the M9 in Germany, then most of the heavy lifting is done in Portugal, which means the great skills of the Portuguese workforce there are key and should not be underestimated. I should know, My wife is from northern Portugal! she was thrilled to see them unwrapping the M9 shipped from Portugal (most of the camera?).
Next time go there, I wiil try to arrange a tour where these cameras are really made!!!
