M9 & Non-Leica Lenses??

I understand that the M9 can be manually set for every Leica lens made, including exotic lenses from decades past. I also understand that for many lenses this serves only to pass information to desktop software, but Leica has chosen to do in camera correction of the peripheral sensor data in wide angle and large aperture lenses based on these selections. I understand that both peripheral light fall-off and color shifts are compensated via in camera process prior to storing the DNG/JPG.

So, are we left with trial and error, attempting to match, for example a CV Ultron 28 f/2.0, or a CV 50 f1.5 / f/1.1, or a Zeiss 21mm f/2.8 / f/4.5 lens? -or- Are we left with no selection and post processing based on best memory of which lens was used?
 
I'm guessing that nobody has a clue as to the answer to this one. I'll try over at Leica Forum. More folks have the M9, but those are the heavy hitters that shoot all Leica glass.
 
Ok, thanks... The obvious answer is just pick the closest Leica lens and call it a day. I assumed this to be the case, but given the more extreme edge demands of the full frame sensor, I was questioning how well this approximation worked. I'm guessing that there might be more issues with this on the M9 than M8 / 8.2. It is a bit early to have that answer.

My take is that the in-camera selection will be a great way to experiment to find the closest match for non-Leica lenses, but that if it's a lens you use frequently you would probably then want to code it permanently. Having to click through a menu each time you mount a lens seems like it would be a time-killer extrordinaire.
 
If the lens looks good on film you are pretty much going to be OK.

However the CV 15 seems to have some vignetting issues. so don't count that one in yet.

Generally the M9 with the new micro-lenses seems to vignette less than the M8 did in the same crop area, even with a un-identified lens. coding the lens to the closest Leica match seems to give good results down to 21mm.
