But not to worry. I'm still a film rangefinder user and won't stray..
Promise....

The best camera is one that still works!
What do you mean you won't stray ... you just admitted to ordering a DSLR!
So what is your definition of straying ... if I was your wife I'd be worried!

the d90 is a great cam with a great sensor - same as the d300. I borrow my friends sometimes to shoot video with. Works great.

just got a used Tokina 12-24mm f/4 lens to go with my 35mm f/1.8. Was traveling this weekend, so I got to take some random shots with the new lens. Wide angle for a lot of day stuff, 35mm for evening and night.

what are you gonna be using with your D90?
also regarding video: i thought it would be useless but it's pretty fun.

I've got a number of lens both digital zooms and older Nikkor manual glass. My favorite all around lens though is the 18-70mm AF-S as well as my old Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 manual lens..

FWIW, the D90 sensor has a higher rating than the D300 on DxO: link

So if I read this correctly the D90 kicked the D300's butt..

For what it's worth DXOmarks "findings" hold no weight in real life most of the time. I don't trust their results one bit.
