Great Bag For Two Electro 35 Cameras

I have been looking fo a satchel type camera bag to carry two Electro 35 cameras, film, hoods, filters etc.

The satchel style appealed as it hugs closer to the body than the traditional rectangle/cube shape and it tends to be less conspicuous.

I considered the Billingham Hadley range and the Domke equivalent but decided on the Crumpler MD-05-07A aka 5 Million Dollar Home - a strange name indeed.

At half the price of the Billingham and 2/3 the cost of the Domke equivalents it is a fine, well made and robust bag with a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser and it does not look like a camera bag.

As I can never seem to get an image to attach to a post please look at their site at www.crumpler.com.au which is well constructed and easy/fun to navigate.

Enough of my ravings - go see for yourselves and let us all know what you think.

Alert!! Alert !! They're probably all lost in the funky crumpler website ;-) The non-flash option get into the site quicker. I like the basic black version.

Crumpler quality is pretty good. I have another smaller bag of thiers for an evil Oly digital.

1st thought: what a terrible website!
2nd thought: nice looking bag, looks useful for a couple of Electros or OM-1s
3rd thought: not available in the UK as far as I can tell

Maybe one day.
 
The Crumpler bags are excellent but sometimes TOO padded for easy access. And in quiet places, the giant velcro fasteners make a noise like machine gun fire.

Nice looking bag though.
 
I have two crumplers, a daily XL, and a pretty boy L. Both are quite rugged, one's similar enough in size to that, but smaller. It could easily hold two electro 35s, I used to carry a minolta 7s II and a TLR in the main part with a single divider with enough space for a few rolls of film thrown in, with my little external hard drive thrown in the front pouch. Have a look on ebay and in the amazon stores for better prices on them, I got both of mine mine from some german chap for about 40% below crumpler's own price.

That particular bag has been everywhere with me the last 2 and a half years, it's completely waterproof from my experiences, which includes multiple flooded european music fesivals, and many trips into dodgey nightclubs. None of my gear's gotten damaged inside either.

Apart from the people who recognise my rangefinders as what they are, most are surprised to see it carries cameras.

Good point about the giant velcro pads, it's really really loud when you're trying not to make any noise.
 
my choice for small, fairly discreet, camera bag is the Tamrac Messenger 3. I can fit any of these combinations:
- 2 rangefinders with 2 additional lenses
- 1 SLR with 2 or 3 additional lenses
- 1 TLR with 1 rangefinder with one additional lens

Very versatile, but does not have the cube feel of small camera bags. Very comfortable to wear.
 
I have the 5MDH which I primarily use with my 5D and various Olympus primes and I have to say that I love it. Perfect size, not too big or too small and it's pretty good looking to boot!
 
I have a crumpler 4MDH. It's a great size for a rangefinder, maybe an extra lens and the film you would shoot in a day walking around. It has a few zip and velcro pockets for accessories.

Opening the bag, the velcro is extremely loud. So loud that if you are in a church or library you would feel a touch of embarrassment. Definitely a deal breaker for anyone on this site that is obsessed with how quiet the Leica shutter is versus a CV Bessa. On the other hand, if you are in a city with pickpockets and thieves on the subway you will never have to wear the bag on your front, nobody could ever sneak in.

Crumpler have addressed the velcro noise issue with built in velcro silencers.

These are essentially small tabs that are hidden behind the velcro on the bag body - just pull / hinge them out, adhere to the velcro on the bag body and the flap velcro cannot adhere to anything -hence silent opening and closing. This is great for function work.

One reply suggested that the Crumpler bags were over padded.

Some of the other bags mentioned in replies were, to me, not padded enough.

It all boils down to needs. For me, I just look at the bag's ability to protect my gear as much as possible while allowing easy access to the gear when on the move. With regards to looks - well, as long as it does not look like a camera bag I will let form follow function.

One feature I do like very much about the Crumpler bags is their shoulder straps. The ability to lengthen it so the bag fits comfortably with the strap over the head on the opposite shoulder is a great benefit. I am tall and, ashamed to say, rather round in the middle, but there is enough strap length to fit me. Also the optonal shoulder strap pad is most comfortable.
