Hi all,

I'm thinking of selling my R2a (gray), 35mm f2.5 (black), and 75mm f2.5 (black) and I'm wondering what the current value might be in the UK. The kit's all in great condition and works wonderfully but I'm getting really tired of scanning the negs.

Has anyone sold/bought any similar used kit in the UK recently? I'd love to hear about your experiences.

Thanks.

That helps, but not in a good way. I wish I'd never bought that lens - hardly ever used it and its value has plummeted.

I've seen the 35mm f2.5 going for as little as £130 and up to £200 - all claimed to be 'mint', some included the adapter. I didn't buy any as whenever I had cash there were none, and when they popped up I had no cash - but I was watching the market quite closely.

If that's a used R2a then that's encouraging. Do you think ebay is a good way to sell?

Thanks for the responses guys, and keep 'em coming if you have any more.

The newer bodies do tend to get a price around £300+ on ebay it seems, it's just the less flashy older CV lenses seem to be ca. £150 - 200. Although I think I was fairly lucky with the Heliar, probably got the lower end of the price distribution curve.

You're tired of scanning the negatives? Are you giving up photography or moving to digital or what?
If you're moving to digital, I'd advise you to hold on to the camera and lenses until the M8 becomes cheaper(and it will get cheap, it may be an M, but it's digital). Then sell on your R2A when you're ready to get an M8, and keep the lenses for use with it.
And as regards giving up photography, don't do it!

Thanks for the responses everyone.

I'm not giving up photography, but I'm getting tired of some aspects of it and am looking to move over to digital. I think an M8 will be out of my price range for some time yet. I've been looking at some of the Micro Four Thirds models - EP-1, G1, GF1 and I like what I see there. Selling my two lenses and my R2a body would get me more than half way towards a GF1 with 20mm pancake (around £800 for the kit).

These days I'm just leaving my camera on the shelf, or taking it out and not shooting. The hassle of scanning and post-processing is really getting me down. I think a simple digital workflow might help me get out of this rut.

If you shoot colour or black and white c41 - Photoexpress will develop and scan a film (3098x2048, ~3 - 5Mb per image) to cd for £3.50, they have a fast turnaround time and the scans are very good. http://www.photo-express.co.uk/faq.html

When I shoot colour (I've started developing my own B+W) I just get a batch of 5 films together and get them to scan to a single CD. Dead easy no messing.

It seems a shame to sell this kit at such a loss, but if you are sick of it then that's cool. Don't forget that you are likely to spend just as much time on the computer with an all digital workflow.

Thanks for the information on PhotoExpress. Very useful.

I have been lucky. Alll of my CV lenses have been around £100 or less: 75 Heliar, 90 APO, 50 Nokton, 35 Ultron. All of them were poorly listed or bundled with a body which was later sold.

If you sell, I would list the items individually and list them well, with good photos. Bear in mind paypal and ebay fees add up to around 10-15% of sale price. You might do better selling on RFF or on commission at somewhere like Ffordes.
