Hi

Does anyone know if Leica makes (or made in the past) a Series VII UV filter? Noted in Leica's website that they do make a Series VI and VIII UV filter but not a VII version?

I'm presently using the Series VII UV/IR filter for my 24 f1.4 on my 8.2 but Leica does not recommend this for the M9... alternative would be to shoot without a filter on a M9 but I think i would be more comfortable using this lens with filter (more from protection perspective) ......

many thanks.

here is a modern one

The Hove accessory book also lists a p/n 13009 UVa Series 7 filter from 1964.

edit - oops, that first one is the uv/ir, maybe a non-leica uv only filter would work?

Leica made in the past a series VII UV filter. I have one for my 35mm Summilux-M pre-ASPH. It fits into the hood for this lens (#12504) and also the hood for the 21/3.4 SA (# 12501).

Hi

Thanks for your reponses. yes, I also found out that they did produced a UV Series 7 filter under Leitz ..... i hope that with the M9 they will reintroduce the Series 7 UV filter for the 24mm f1.4 summilux.

best regards

The old Leitz UV filters were single coated. The modern B+W MRC UV filters are much better at reducing ghosting and flare. If B+W don't make one in Series VII, a simple solution is to buy one in 49mm and swap the glass into an older Leitz S-VII ring.

Actually, it is better to order a Series VII protective filter for that purpose. Those filters are stronger and more scratch resistant, still the glass is thinner to reduce image degradation. Both B&W and Heliopan offer them.
