My Ikon 21mm f/4.5 kit recently arrived.
Perhaps this question makes little sense with a lens of such great depth of field, but my 21mm rangefinder decouples at just over .6M. The last .1+meters of lens rotation is decoupled. Is this normal for this lens, or should I be contacting Zeiss?

That is normal. ~.7m is the closest m-mount lenses can couple.

After using a CV 21mm on my ZI for over a year, l loaned the lens to a friend. He brought it back saying that it was rangefinder coupled. I never knew that as I had always just zone focused it. And I still have not ever used the rangefinder.
But I must admit that I have never photographed anything less than one meter away with a lens that wide.

Thanks.. that all makes sense.
I was shooting at 1/15 second indoors, wide open, close in, so I was paying a bit of attention to the rangefinder. Of course the depth of field wide open is rather substantial. I'm a happy camper.

While I don't have the Zeiss 21 4.5, I use a Rokkor 21mm 4.0 with two adapters [Rokkor lens-Leica LTM adapter -M adapter] on a Leica M. I do not have any RF coupling, and I don't seem to need it.

You are probably right about not needing it. I'm just a roll and one-half into the lens and the use of the rangefinder will probably go bye bye as I use the lens. Certainly over a few feet it is a non-brainer.
