I managed to shoot a roll of Neopan in a once in a lifetime (I hope 😛) very short visit to a disused soon to be altered maximum security prison ... this is detailed in another thread!

I've developed hundreds of rolls of black and white film since I first took the plunge a couple of years ago with no problems at all but this particular film was different ... and irreplacable. The sense of anticipation then relief when I removed the washed negative from the Paterson and saw that all was well thirty six times was truly remarkable ... and I must admit, a complete adrenalin rush! (perhaps I need to get out more?) 😛

I love my M8 and sometimes transfering the files from an SD card to my computer and seeing what's there can be a real buzz ... but not like this! The ability to potentially cock it all up when messing around with times and chemicals and chemical ratios definitely makes it special ... for me I'll add, because this is not a film vs digital rant!

Apart from which I have to digitize the images by scanning them yet! 😀

Glad you got them Keith! I'm looking forward to seeing them. I know what you mean about worrying about getting the film to come out well. It is always a rush when it does, because despite our best efforts, sometimes it just doesn't.

And of course it's these too-important rolls that we're bound to screw up because we're tense.

I think the day when there is no adrenaline rush when you peel the film of the reels and hang it up to dry - I will go digital. Even after having processed 10's of 000's of rolls over the years - it is still something else to quickly look at them when they are hanging there.
I suspect that it is a sense of accomplishment - i did it all (except making the film) and nay mistakes are mine - but so are the successes! With digital it is more of a "electronic interface" between you and the image.

At the moment while the building development around it goes on the prison remains as it was when closed ... extremely run down and very grim and dirty generally! Once the complex of buildings and cafes around it springs to life it will be open for business no doubt for the well heeled who want to pay at the gate and do the 'crime doesn't pay tour' ... I'm sure it will be sanitized somewhat for this later part of it's career! 😛
 
During the time between taking the pictures, and developing the film and seeing the negs, I do a bit of hoping/praying that the pics work out well. In this sense, film photography is good for the soul because it brings you closer to god.

Sheesh ... if these photos are crap I'm in deep trouble! 😱

Thanks for asking Barrett ... aside from a bruise the size of a pomegranate on my thigh I bear little damage ... aside from my pride of course for doing something so dopey in front of people who know much better.

The funny thing is ... to be on a construction site of this magnitude you have to have the oppropriate 'occupational health and safety' card and also need to attend a half hour safety induction course run by the site's appointed 'workplace health and safety officer' at 6.30 am in the morning before they'll turn you loose in the place to do your own thing! Not to mention you have to walk around all day wearing one of those lovely 'dayglo' safety vests and a fetching white safety helmet!

Obviously I learnt nothing! 😛

He never knew a thing ... I picked myself up very quickly and never said a word to anyone ... he would have been sitting in his air conditioned office at the time most likely. My mate Adrian who was standing a couple of feet away from me was the one who probably needed the underwear change!

Once you show them your 'white card' and complete and sign their paperwork you're on your own ... as far as they're concerned their parts done and if you finish up at the bottom of two meter hole encased in concrete it's your problem because they explained to you what you had to do to avoid that situation! 😛
