Hi
Can anyone recommend a simple, free application for creating a slide show from some of my digital images?
It needs to be stored on my laptop so I can use it for a presentation.
Thanks

Faststone. A Free image viewer with simple photo editing features such as batch resizing, sharpening and colour management. Nice slide shows with editable features.
Small and fast.

Second ijohnnyz. Soundslides is the best of the free software out there. It isn't fancy, but it gets the job done. If you have Lightroom and want to spend a little money, though. SlideShowPro for Lightroom is just a knockout good and easy to use program for making slideshows.

Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/main_download_engl.htm) is my choice for slide shows in Windows machines.

Picasa will be fine for a basic presentation. ProShow Gold from Photodex allows you to add sounds, soundtrack, narration etc. but runs around $80.

Openoffice.org is a great free office suite and includes a very good slide-show package that will allow you to save/use presentations with Microsoft Office software, etc.

Iphoto for Mac.
Not free but and excellent editing program with slideshow capability: PhotoMechanic.
And not easy to pick-up and master in one day, but pretty comprehensive: Sound Slides, which allows you to build a slide show with imported audio and output as a Quick Time file.
where do i find the slide show on iphoto?

I suggest "photo film strip": it is a nice freeware, it creates slideshows with the Ken Burn Effect that can be played also with home DVD player.
