The M3 is my favourite viewfinder, too. And it saved me money - as it has no 35mm framelines, I sold my Summicron 35/2 and use the 40/2 instead, using the whole viewfinder.
Perhaps all of our responses to the OP were confusing, anyway. We perhaps simply have said that with the same camera/system higher magnification allows more accurate focusing, with the caveats that not all the theoretical increase in accuracy is achievable, due to mechanical errors, while you will also have to sacrifice the wider framelines, and hence the higher mag system will not be as suitable for wide-angle lenses.
