Question for you Contax TVS (35mm, version I) owners. What kind of info is displayed in the viewfinder by the LCD, and how crucial is it for shooting? I've used a TVS II, but I understand the viewfinder/display info was changed significantly between the two models.

I'm considering picking up one with a dead viewfinder LCD. I imagine shutter speed won't be displayed, and probably the focus guides (essentially making the viewfinder static like virtually every other P&S). Is there anything else that will be missing? (i.e., focusing target, frame lines, etc.).

Do you still think the camera is worth using/owning without the viewfinder LCD info?

Thanks!

just went and checked.
flash mode, auto focus confirmation, exposure mode, and shutter speed info is displayed.
if the price is really good, pictures/ picture-taking will not really be affected to a huge degree. would be a less-informative point and shoot but with the same lens. but the price should reflect this issue.

Frank - thanks so much.

As I recall from the TVS II, the flash mode info & exposure mode is also displayed on the top panel lcds, so that isn't a huge loss. Shutter speed and autofocus confirm are very nice - but 90% of all point & shoots don't show this information. Based on my brief experience with the TVS II, this is an excellent zoom lens. I'll give it a think.

Cheers!

what's the asking price, if i may ask?
up to $100 would be great, imo. more than that, and it is no longer a no-brainer. :)

$60. I'm sorely tempted! Do you think it would be a problem using the auto-focus with no lcd feedback? You can sometimes hear the lens "click" when it locks focus on other AF cameras. Is it the same with the TVS?

i'd buy it for $60 iiwy. the only times you'd need the focus confirmation light is at too short a focus distance, or when glass or chrome are involved.

The lens on the TVS (I've had two) isn't nearly of the same quality as the other T series. I found it pretty poor at anything over 5x7 prints.
