Looks good:

1 Enabled the MF Assist operation by pressing the Rear dial, when the lens which supports only MF operation is attached, including the case any lens is mounted on M Mount Adaptor(DMW-MA2M) or R Mount Adaptor(DMW-MA3R).
Please make sure to set [SHOOT W/O LENS] to [ON] in [CUSTOM MENU].

2 Improved AF(Auto Focus) performance in Motion Picture recording.

3 Improved the picture quality for high sensitivity photo shooting.

4 Improved the performance of AWB (Auto White Balance).

5 Improved the representation in the human face related scene modes([PORTRAIT], [SOFT SKIN], [NIGHT PORTRAIT] and [BABY]).

6 Improved the AE program (combination of the aperture and the shutter speed) in the scenery related scene modes([SCENERY] and [ARCHITECTURE]).

Number one certainly looks like great news for those of us shooting with M-mounted lenses :)

One last thing.. I believe the firmware is universal and that it detects the camera region before applying the relevant update. ie. A Japanese model will get the Japanese update. Maybe someone can confirm..?

I just updated hoping that I'd be able to opt for English language menus (I bought a Japanese version here in Taiwan). No such luck. But I'll take whatever touted improvements they claim to be offering anyway...

Just updated and had a quick play around with an M-Mount lens (Jupiter 8) and am struggling to see what's new. I was half expecting an audible beep once focus was achieved but that's not happening.

EDIT: Okay, re-read.. Push in top dial for AF assist, ie. quick zoom. Nice.

On another note the 20mm lens firmware has also been updated (separate download):

From the Panasonic site:
1. Improved AF(Auto Focus) performance in Motion Picture recording.

Apparently the camera is hard-coded to only accept (in yours and my case) Japanese firmware. The file to update US/EU models is likely the same..

Stupid question coming atcha . . . I downloaded the update, which is now sitting in my "Downloads" file. What the hell do I do now? Mac user, by the way.

1.Double click the downloaded zip file and you should see a new file: GF1__110.bin
2.Format your SD card and then copy GF1__110.bin to it.
3.Insert SD card into GF1 and then click the play button

The GF1 should then offer you the option to upgrade.

Good luck!

First of all, be sure that the battery is 100% full

I did it 20min ago and no problem.

I did the update with the cord to the USB. No problems with either the 20 or the 14-45.
But I'm a still shooter so I think it didn't do anything....
But in my mind...the Pen is much faster......

Anyone have any knowledge of hacks to install English language firmware over the Japanese only menus of the Japan model Panasonic cameras?

The GF-1 and GH-1 are available in Japan as bodies only... but they need some kind of registry reset in order to prevent any firmware update again being Japanese language only.

Anyone?
